  9. What is SpkQQ?  What does it do? ********************************************
  10.   SpkQQ is device driver to play *.WAV files on Windows.  It reproduces
  11. sound using the internal speaker available on most personal computers.  Thus,
  12. it will allow computers without a sound board (e.g. notebooks) to play *.WAV
  13. files.
  14.   Furthermore, it will act as a multimedia driver and will play *.WAV files
  15. from most applications such as games.
  16.  
  17.   SpkQQ is a shareware.  You are able to evaluate the product for 1 week.
  18. After that time, the program will cease to run.  If you like the product,
  19. please submit a payment from the CompuServe SWREG.

  22. Be sure to test SpkQQ on your system to make sure that there is not problem

  26. Distinguishing Functions *****************************************************
  27.   1. Mouse pointer will not freeze while *.WAV files are replayed.
  28.     You will be able to move your mouse pointer while *.WAV files are
  29.     being replayed.  Furthermore, the program support RS-232C interrupts
  30.     so you will even be able to play sound files while sending mail.
  31.   2. Support over sampling.
  32.     SpkQQ is able to calculate your system performance and readjust the
  33.     *.WAV sampling rate.  If you set SpkQQ to replay at a high sampling
  34.     rate, it is possible to (depends on your system performance) replay
  35.     at a higher sampling rate than when the sound was originally recorded.
  36.     The program is possible to produce a crystal quality sound if the
  37.     system is able to provide high performance.
  38.   3. Support all PCM and WAV format files.
  39.     SpkQQ supports 8/16 bit sound, mono/stereo sound, 8-64kHz sampling
  40.     rate sounds files.  To reproduce ADPCM-WAVE (4 bit) sound, Microsoft
  41.     MSACM.DRV is necessary.
  42.   4. Allow customization through various parameters.
  43.     Replay parameters such as volume and echo can be set from the dialog
  44.     box. 
  45.   5. Includes SpkQQ program and files installer/remover.

  76.   The author and the developer of this software will not take any

  78.   The files contained in SPKQQ.LZH file are distributed "as is" and without 
  79. any expressed and implied warranties.  The user assumes the entire risk of 
  80. using the software.

  82. Install/Update ***************************************************************
  83. WARNING: Near the end of SpkQQ installation or update, Windows must be
  84.          restarted.  Please close all applications before initiating the
  85.          following steps.
  86.  
  87.   To install or update SpkQQ in your system, please do the following steps:
  88.     1. Decompress the SPKQQ.LZH file into a directory (use LHA decompression
  89.     tool. If you do not have any, down-load TINYLHA.ZIP WUGNET 6).
  90.     2. Run the SPKSETUP.EXE file included in the SPKQQ.LZH file from
  91.        the Program Manager ([File]-[Run] menu selections) or from the File
  92.        Manager.  For more information on running program from the Program or
  93.        the File Manager, consult the Windows manual.
  94.     3. When the "SpkQQ Setup" dialog box appears, choose the [Install] button
  95.        if SpkQQ is not already been installed, or choose the [Update] button
  96.        if SpkQQ is not already installed.
  97.     4. When the "Environment" dialog box appears, choose the circle to the 
  98.        left of the [IBM/AT Compatible].  The circle should turn into a bullet
  99.        mark.  (Choose the circle next to the [NEC 9801/PC 486 Series] if you
  100.        really have a Japanese NEC computer).
  101.     5. Choose the [OK] button.
  102.     6. When the "SpkQQ Installation" dialog box appears, enter the drive and
  103.        the directory name where the SpkQQ Help and sample *.WAV files are to
  104.        to be copied.
  105.     7. Choose the [Start Installation] button.
  106.     8. When the "Restart Windows" dialog box appears, choose the [Yes] button
  107.        to restart Windows and finish the installation or choose the [No]
  108.        button to exit the installation and restart Windows later (exit Windows
  109.        manually).
  110.        Windows must be restarted to use Spkqq.
  111.     9. If the [Yes] button was chosen, the installation program will copy
  112.        the files to the drive and directory specied and restart the Window.
  113.        "SpkQQ" group with "SpkQQ Setup" and several sample *.WAV files will
  114.        be added to the Program Manager.
  115.    10. Choose the "SpkQQ Setup" icon.
  116.    11. When the "SpkQQ Setup" dialog box appears, choose the [Customization]
  117.        button.
  118.    12. When the "Customization" dialog box appears, choose the [CPU] button
  119.        to adjust to the optimum sampling rate on your PC.  Next, choose the
  120.        [Test] button.  You should hear some music coming out from your PC.
  121.        If you did, that's it.  SpkQQ is properly installed in your system.
  122.        Choose the [OK] button to save the settings.

  124.        If you didn't, try increasing the volume (drag the volume lever to the
  125.        right).  Choose the [Test] button once again.  If you still didn't hear
  126.        hear any music, please send us a mail.

  128. If SpkQQ is installed in your system, you will be able to replay *.WAV files.
  129. Try replaying some sample files included with the program.

  131. If You are Having Problem Installing ****************************************
  132.   If you are having a problem installing or removing SpkQQ, please try the
  133. followings:
  134.  
  135.   1. Be sure that there is at least 1MB of free hard disk space on the
  136.      installation drive and on the Windows drive.  If there is less than 1MB
  137.      of available disk space, please delete some unwanted files.  After 1MB
  138.      of free hard disk is available, try install or removing SpkQQ.
  139.  
  140.   2. If SpkQQ still can not be installed or removed, file sharing system
  141.      might be interfering.  SpkQQ accesses the SYSTEM.INI file during
  142.      installation and removal, but SHARE.EXE or VSHARE.386 may interfere and
  143.      terminate the process.  In this cases, please disable these programs
  144.      temporary.
  145.    (a) Edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and insert REM before the SHARE.
  146.        i.e. REM C:\SHARE.EXE
  147.    (b) Edit the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI file.
  148.        Search for [386Enh].
  149.        Search for DEVICE=VSHARE.386 and insert a ";" before DEVICE.
  150.        i.e.   ;DEVICE=VSHARE.386
  151.    (c) Re-boot the system and try installing or removing SPKQQ.
