  32. Introduction

  35. The disk provided with this Application Note contains the following
  36. two files:
  37.  
  38.    BRTWHITE.BAT
  39.    WDBF.EXE
  40.  
  41. BRTWHITE.BAT is an MS-DOS batch file that modifies your Word for MS-
  42. DOS program file (WORD.EXE) so that the text color is bright (high)
  43. white when you are in graphics mode. By default in Word version 6.0,
  44. the text color in graphics mode (instead of being bright white) is
  45. gray (low white) on a color display adapter such as a VGA or an EGA.
  46. By contrast, in earlier versions of Word, the text color in graphics
  47. mode is bright white. On monochrome or two-color displays, the text
  48. color in graphics mode is still bright white, as in previous versions
  49. of Word.

  51.   NOTE: BRTWHITE.BAT does not change the text color to any color other
  52.   than bright white.

  54. WDBF.EXE is the Word BYTEFIX utility. BRTWHITE.BAT uses this utility
  55. (WDBF.EXE) to modify your Word program file as described in the
  56. previous paragraph.

  58. To Install BRTWHITE.BAT
  59. -----------------------

  61. Use the following instructions to copy the files from the enclosed
  62. DW0892 disk to your hard disk:
  63.  
  64. 1. Exit Word.
  65.  
  66. 2. Insert the DW0892 disk in your floppy disk drive.
  67.  
  68. 3. At the MS-DOS command prompt, type the following command and press
  69.    ENTER
  70.  
  71.       copy <drive>:\*.* <destination>
  72.  
  73.    where drive is the floppy disk drive containing the DW0892 disk and
  74.    destination is the path to your Word program directory (that is,
  75.    the drive and directory where your Word for MS-DOS program files
  76.    reside). For example, if the DW0892 disk is in drive A, and your
  77.    Word program directory is called WORD6DOS and is on drive C, type
  78.    the following command:

  80.       copy a:\*.* c:\word6dos
  81.  
  82. To Use BRTWHITE.BAT
  83. -------------------

  85. To use the BRTWHITE.BAT file to modify your WORD.EXE file so that the
  86. text color is bright white instead of low white in graphics mode, do
  87. the following:
  88.  
  89. 1. At the MS-DOS command prompt, change to the Word program directory
  90.    by typing the following and then pressing ENTER
  91.  
  92.       cd <destination>
  93.  
  94.    where <destination> is the path to your Word program directory. For
  95.    example, if your Word program directory is called WORD6DOS and is
  96.    on drive C, type the following command:

  98.       cd c:\word6dos
  99.  
  100. 2. At the MS-DOS command prompt, type the following and then press
  101.    ENTER:

  103.       brtwhite
  104.  
  105. Next time you start Word, the text color in graphics mode will be
  106. bright white.
