FindVirus! is a small program which may help in identifying a virus currently
undetected by SCANV, Central Point, Off! and other scanners. For more
information on the type of virus run FINDV without any command line
parameters.
NOTE! FindV is **NOT** a comprehensive virus identification system! It will
make a best effort to identify this particular virus only and even at
that, it is not fool proof! False alarms may be triggered by programs
which fit the virus profile.
Suspected files should be examined carefully and, if possible, a
reliable (known good) copy should be restored from backups.
The scanned file count reported is NOT of all the files on your drive
but rather of all the .COM files which were checked. Those
are the only ones attacked or created.
This program is furnished AS IS, with no warranties of ANY sort. Use it
at your own risk!
This program may be freely distributed as long as no modifications of
any sort are made to it. The original distribution file contains only
2 files: FINDV.EXE and FINDV.DOC. There should be NO OTHER FILES
INCLUDED in this archive! The archive MUST PASS PKWare athenticity
checks and return a ExecNet's -AV identification when unzipped!
For more information leave a message for EXECNET SUPPORT. We can be
reached at 914-667-4567 (data) or as execnet.support@execnet.com via
the internet.
v 1.1 October 23, 1993
- Corrected a problem which prevented the audit file from being
created when FINDV was ran out of a root directory
- Re-classified reporting into probabilites since FINDV can and
likely will trigger some false alarms. The report now shows a
"slight chance" of infection for files which are likely to be
a false alarm, a "may be infected" for good (average)
candidates and a "VERY probably" message for a high percentage
match.
- If you are not sure about a file (which will probably be the
case) DON'T TAKE CHANCES - overrite the file with a known good
copy!
- Added command line option "/D". If /D is added to command
line any files which are identified as a "VERY PROBABLE"
infection will be AUTOMATICALLY DELETED!!!! WARNING!! THIS
*CAN* DELETE INNOCENT FILES! Admittedly, that is not a bad
problem if you will restore them from a known clean copy or
backup anyhow. Use this option with caution! No marginal
suspects will deleted automatically.
