  4. QNV.COM is the non-memory resident version of the file viewing
  5. utility, QnView. QNV allows you to browse or search through any
  6. text file easily.

  8. The syntax for using QNV.COM is as follows:
  9.  
  10.      QNV /FILENAME.EXTENSION /TITLE(optional) /MONO(optional)
  11.  
  12. /FILENAME.EXTENSION is the full filename with extension. You can  
  13.  also include the drive and path.
  14.  
  15. /TITLE is optional. QNV will Display the Title that you have chosen 
  16.  in the box at the top of the screen. If, for example, you are    
  17.  using QNV to list your stock numbers, then you would enter:
  18.  /Stock Numbers and that would be displayed at the top of the     
  19.  screen. This is optional, but if used, must appear as the second 
  20.  entry on the command line.

  22. /MONO forces QNV to operate in Monochrome Mode. It can be the     
  23.  second or third entry.

  25. In addition, the valid switches for QNV.COM will be displayed if you
  26. type QNV /? or QNV /HELP.

  28. If QNV is to be used on a network, the text file that will be
  29. viewed should have it's Attribute set to READ-ONLY. In DOS 5.0 and 6.0 
  30. this is done with the ATTRIB Command. The syntax is:
  31.                    ATTRIB +R YOURFILE.EXT 
  32. To reset the attribute to READ-WRITE, substitute a -R for the +R.

  34. This version of QNV is Freeware. That means, you can use it on as
  35. many computers as you want, as long as you don't charge for it.
  36. It's simple. If you want to sell it, contact the author for a Re-
  37. Sale Package. If you want the TSR version of QnView, Again, Contact
  38. the author for that package.

  40. This program (and the TSR version) were developed for use on my in-
  41. house system. We were implementing a large scale (for us) Q&A
  42. application, and we were in need of a way to list our Customer
  43. Codes while doing Order Entry. The answer was, QnView. We have
  44. determined that we can use QnView in a number of ways, from reading
  45. reports that are created in Q&A, to listing codes needed for entry.
  46. It in NO WAY is meant to supersede any portion of Q&A (the Finest
  47. Flat File DataBase Manager), rather it is offered as an
  48. enhancement.

  50.                          Using QNV.COM 
  51.  
  52. After You load QNV with a filename, you will see a familiar Blue
  53. and Cyan screen, that operates, like you would expect it to.
  54. Pressing F1 brings up a help screen that lists the Navigation keys
  55. that are available (up arrow, down arrow, page up, page down,
  56. etc.). In addition, if you are using a mouse, you can click on the
  57. frame of the box surrounding the text file, and scroll the screen
  58. up, down, left, and right. In addition, clicking on the corner of
  59. the box scrolls the screen in the direction of the corner (i.e. up
  60. and right, down and left, etc.). Pressing F3 brings up the Search
  61. Box. QNV can search by letter, word, or phrase. It will bring up
  62. all occurrences of the Search Spec, one after the other. The found
  63. item will be displayed on the top line of the view window, and will
  64. be in reverse video. If Search fails to find a match, it tells you
  65. that "No Match Was Found". Pressing F5 brings up the About QnView
  66. window. If this was a memory resident version of QnView, it would
  67. also display the user selected Hot Key, the Swap Filename, and the
  68. session number being run (The TSR version of QnView allows you to
  69. load up to 9 documents or "sessions" at one time!). Pressing Esc
  70. brings up the Exit window. Again, this behaves the way you would
  71. expect it to.
