  3.                       Buy a new car in Europe
  4.  
  5.                The next time you're ready to buy a new car,
  6.           look to the showrooms in Europe.  In Europe, you
  7.           can choose from many makes and models (with
  8.           optional U.S. environmental and safety standards,
  9.           if you want to sell the car in the United States).
  10.           These cars are exactly the same as those you'd see
  11.           at showrooms in your country. But they cost less,
  12.           and European sales tax (which can run as high as
  13.           35%) is not added to cars bought by foreigners.
  14.                All things considered, you can save enough
  15.           purchasing your new car in Europe to pay for your
  16.           trip -- and have money left over.  By purchasing
  17.           the car in Europe, you save more than enough to
  18.           enjoy a week or two tooling Europe's country roads
  19.           in your new automobile. And if you do use your new
  20.           Mercedes as transportation during your European
  21.           vacation, you'll also save the cost of renting a
  22.           car.
  23.                Almost any European car dealership in your
  24.           country can handle the transaction for you. When
  25.           you plan your trip, try to arrange to pick up the
  26.           car and to leave it for delivery to your country in
  27.           cities specified by the dealer. Volvos, for
  28.           example, will be shipped free to the United States
  29.           if you drop the car off in either London or
  30.           Antwerp.
  31.                If you intend to resell the car in the United
  32.           States, Be sure to specify that your car be
  33.           equipped to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety
  34.           Standards and to U.S. or California emissions
  35.           regulations. If you get a car that does not meet
  36.           these standards, modification costs will wipe out
  37.           any savings you reap.
  38.                Rest assured that any new car bought in Europe
  39.           comes with the same manufacturer's warranty as a
  40.           car bought in your country.  We're not talking
  41.           "grey market" deals here, we're talking about
  42.           tourist purchase arranged by the car's manufacturer
  43.           and authorized dealers.
