Request for Membership:
International Association of Modem Users
This is a "Request for Membership" into the International
Association of Modem Users (IAMU). After completing this
Request, please keep a copy of it for your own records. ALL
INFORMATION PROVIDED HEREIN BY YOU, WILL NOT BE RELEASED WITHOUT
YOUR EXPRESS CONSENT.
This Request is nine pages long and contains about 40 items for
your consideration. If you print out a copy now, it will be
easier for you to fill in your answers. It should take 15 or 20
minutes to complete. This is a serious undertaking, so please
read carefully.
Required answers are marked with a Plus "+" sign.

provided is not correct, your Request may be delayed or returned
to you for correction.

Memberships issued may be modified, suspended, denied or
cancelled at any time for any reason. In particular, such
actions may be taken in response to mis-represenations made
herein, or upon the advice of the Association's Steering
Committee or at the sole discretion of myself, James Leonard,
Founder, whenever such actions are deemed to be in the best
interests of the Association as a whole, or to protect the
interests or safety of any individual Association Member(s).
Covenant of Confidentiality: Information provided by You, in
this Request for Membership, will NOT be released by this
Association without your express consent. This information is
hereby considered and jointly deemed by You and the Association
to be subjectively personal, private and confidential,in nature.
Said information shall be entitled to be protected as such, from
disclosure to any individual or authority. You, as the provider
of this information, may expect the IAMU to reasonably protect
this information from disclosure to any other person, unless we
receive your express permission and the Association also concurs
that such information may be released. Any unauthorized
disclosure shall be treated as a violation of these expectations
of privacy and confidentiality.

Please provide some information about Bulletin Boards Systems
and On-Line Services where you can send and receive information.

We DO NOT want to know your "log-on" Passwords! When listing
your User Name, below; DO NOT include your Password! You
should never reveal your log-on Passwords to others! It's a
good idea to use a unique log-on Password for each System that
you call. This will help to prevent someone else from posting
messages under your name!

NOTE: If you have your own system equipped to send/receive data
by modem and wish to use it to interact with the Association,
please provide your "data" telephone number on the line marked
"Personal Computer".
(1) On the on-line system "Delphi", you may log on for a trial
period that includes 5 free hours of on-line useage, by
using our Delphi Guest Password:
Call 1-800-695-4002 (press return once or twice)
At UserName, enter: JOINDELPHI (press return)
At Password, enter: CUSTOM100 (press return)
After receiving your personal UserName, you may request access
to the Association's Custom Forum by direct on-line Mail.
At these prompts: Type in:

CC: "your UserName" (return)
After you enter in your message, use the Ctrl+Z keys to end
your message and send it to IAMU. If you want to retain a
copy of your Forum Access Request in your Mail Box, insert
your UserName into the CC: prompt; Otherwise, you may leave
that field blank, if you do not need to keep an extra copy.
If you already have been granted Forum access, you may enter the
Association's "Custom Forum " while on-line to Delphi. From any
Main Menu prompt - type in: GO GROUPS CUSTOM 100 (return)
Delphi is accessible by direct dial or by using a local Tymnet
or SprintNet Telephone Access Number. For help on connecting
from your local area, you may call and speak with the customer
service reps at:

Delphi: 1-800-695-4005
If you are unable to access this Forum locally, other
arrangements will be made to establish a "guest forum" on a
service that you can reach locally. The Association will also
donate time and resources to help extend local or nearby access
to international Echo-Mail Conferences to benefit Modem Users.

What Kind of Membership Do You Want ?

Any individual Modem User, Sysop, Network Administrator,
Conference Host/Moderator or other individuals that have an
interest in learning about Free Speech Rights and are willing
to actively participate in their protection, may submit a
Request for Membership to join the Association according to
this 1993 Membership Schedule:

Initial Membership Limitations:

Steering Committees: Seventy-Five (75) Memberships
Volunteers: Seven Hundred & Fifty (750) Memberships
Supporters: Unlimited Number of Memberships

1. "Steering Committee" Members are required to donate a minimum
of eight hours per month during the term of their Membership,
in addition to any special meetings or tele-conferences, as
may be required. After we reach a sustainable Membership
level, the Steering Committee will be directed to implement
a program to assist Members with expenses incurred on behalf
of Association activities, on a go-forth basis.(ie. telephone
& E-Mail expenses).
2. "Volunteers" are expected to donate at least four hours of
time per month, during the term of their "free" Membership.
3. "Supporters" may pay by personal check drawn on a U.S. bank
or by using an internationally accepted money order payable
in U.S. Dollars. We are in the process of applying for a
"charitable/non-profit" status with the state of Washington
and will subsequently file for "tax-exempt" status with the
Internal Revenue Service. Until these filings are complete,
monies received MAY NOT be deductible on your state or
federal income tax returns.
*Please consult with your accountant or tax attorney regarding
any such tax deductions.
4. All Members in good standing are required to vote on Major
Decisions that are brought forth by the Steering Committee
or by the Founder.
5. As Requests for Memberships are received, they are dated and
numbered in the order received. This Information upon receipt
by the IAMU, is expressly considered to be subjectively
private, personal and confidential. It will not be released
to anyone, without your consent, under any circumstances.
6. As with any association, these items are subject to change.
Periodic news bulletins, monthly reports, quarterly state-
ments and an annual report of the Association's activities
will be transmitted to all Members, in good standing.
7. Initial Requests for Membership will only be accepted by
Electronic Mail or by way of a Text File Transfer (this
proves that you are a Modem User!).
As these Requests are received by the Association, they are
deleted from the Mail and File Storage Areas under our control
on the computer or on-line services that we use to receive them.

NOTE: The systems that are used to store, transmit or relay
your Requests to us, may not be able to guarantee "privacy"
or non-disclosure.
Your ageeance to Honor this MEMBERSHIP SCHEDULE indicates that
you are committed to participating in Association activities.
Without such honor and committment on the part of each and every
Member, this Association will not be able to forge ahead to
overcome obstacles that lay in the path of Free Speech.

When sent via "regular" postal & mail services, you must
sign your name by "hand" on this line. When transmitted
electronically, "type in" your Real Name on this line.
When your Request is received electronically, it will also
contain some sort of "tag", "tear", "sig" or other "message
origination" lines attached to your original message. These
identifying lines and other such typed in "initials" and
"signatures" shall be accepted in lieu, of "hand-written"
signings.
Interested Non-Member Modem Users may submit information,rumors
and opinions to the Association. These will be given to the
Steering Committee for verification and action. Reports,
Bulletins and New Releases will be shared with our Members, the
BBS Community and the general public (through various mediums)
to help increase awareness of various "modem related" issues.

1. Print out a hard copy of this Request. Please proof-read it,
making sure it has been filled out honestly and completely.
2. If you have any questions, contact us by phone or by E-Mail
before you send it in to us for consideration.
3. If the Request is found to be inaccurate or incomplete
(either before or after Membership is granted), we may ask
you to clarify information provided or we may ask you to
re-submit a new Request.
4. If you are have knowingly participated in the distribution
of those infamous "Modem Tax" hoaxes, you must include an
open letter of apology addressed to "ALL MODEM USERS",
along with this Request for Membership.

6. You may also ask us to pick up this Request, directly from
either your computer system or from your local Bulletin
Board System.
To pick it up from your computer, we'll have to arrange
a specific date and time to arrange for the file transfer.
To arrange for us to pick the Request up from your local
Bulletin Board System, ask your BBS Sysop to help you with
this. He or she will have to notify us when the file is
ready for pick up. We would prefer to have this file be
prepared as a "password-protected" text file to prevent
someone else from downloading it by mistake. (Ask your local
Sysop to help you!)
7. You may also send an "original", signed copy of this Request,
together with your payment (check drawn on U.S. bank or an
International Money Order payable in US dollars), as follows:

8. After your Request is received, we will send you a
"Confirmation of Receipt" message. If you do not receive
this message within ten days please contact us as soon as
you can so we can follow up on it.
Once your Request has been reviewed, we will contact you to
verify the information you provide. This should take about 10
days. After your Membership has been approved we'll send you
information that will include details about your Membership and
the Association's current activities.
The IAMU reserves the right to delay, deny, suspend, modify or
otherwise cancel or revoke any or all Memberships and/or remove
access to any or all Forums and Conferences that exist for the
express use of IAMU Members, as may become necessary to protect
the interests, reputations, or safety of the IAMU, or any of
it's Members, or in due consideration of same, on behalf of any
other associated entities (ie.individual Bulletin Board Systems,
Users or Sysops, Network E-Mail providers, or on-line service
providers such as Delphi, et. al.).
