Bulletin #3 - General Information For Applicants
U.S. OFFICE OF PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT
Federal Job Opportunity Lists (FJOL)
────────────────────────────────────
This package contains two listings of federal job opportunities. The
first list shows "(GPA)" below the Service Center title in the
upper left corner of each page. It contains the jobs in that Service
Center's jurisdiction for which applications are being accepted and a
few jobs outside that jurisdiction for which they are also
recruiting. The second list shows "(Nationwide)" below name of the
Serivce Center. It contains federal job opportunities located
anywhere in the nation or the world, not necessarily in the local
area. Lists are published on the 1st and 16th of each month and
are posted in the Federal Job Information Center (FJIC) and State
Employment Service offices.
Starting Salaries - General Schedule (GS) Positions
Effective: January 1993

Pay for Wage Grade (WG) Positions
─────────────────────────────────
The hourly wage for trades and crafts (WG) positions depends on the
geographic location of the position. The current pay for individual
Wage Grade positions is shown in "Remarks" on the FJOL.
Special Salary Rates
────────────────────
For certain positions for which there is a shortage of qualified
applicants, the starting salary is higher than the normal starting
salary for the grade. The FJOL indicates the jobs to which special
salary rates apply.
How to File
───────────
Application forms, qualification requirements and filing information
can be obtained from the address on List A shown under the "Where to
Get Forms" column. "List A" appears at the end of this listing.
Applications will be accepted only for positions and locations shown on
the Federal Job Opportunity List. Be sure your application shows the
title, series, grade and control number of the job for which you are
applying. Fill out all the blocks on the application completely,
presenting your experience in detail, especially as it relates to the
position requirements described on the Qualification Information
Statement. A resume may not be substituted for the required
application forms. Make sure that you complete and include with your
application any required supplemental qualifications statement.
Incomplete applications will not be returned and may result in a
lowered score or ineligibility. Failure to submit the forms to the
proper office will delay the processing of your application.
Career America Connection
─────────────────────────
For the convenience of applicants, the U.S. Office of Personnel
Management offers a phone number which provides information on
specific vacancies. The Career America Connection number is
912-757-3000. The Career America Connection contains only a partial
listing of vacancies; therefore, Federal job information applicants
seeking a complete listing should call or visit one of their local
Federal Job Information Center or State Employment Service Office.
Qualification Requirements
──────────────────────────
Generally, there is a separate Qualifications Information Statement
(QIS) or announcement for each position. It describes the experience,
education, knowledges, skills, and abilities required. Be sure to read
these requirements carefully and apply only for those jobs for which
you qualify.
Filing Dates
────────────
Applications must be received or postmarked no later than the closing
date shown on the Federal Job Opportunities Listing.
Because of immediate needs to fill some vacancies, an early
consideration date may be indicated on the FJOL. Applications received
or postmarked by the early consideration date will be processed first.
Applications received or postmarked after that time will be processed
in the order of filing, or, depending on staffing needs, returned to
you unrated. It is to your advantage to file early.
Special Filing Privileges
─────────────────────────
If you are a disabled veteran, Purple Heart recipient, a recently
discharged (120 days or less) veteran, the mother of a veteran who died
in action or who is totally disabled, the unmarried widow/widower of a
veteran, the spouse of a totally disabled veteran with a service-
connected disability, or have recently (120 days or less) returned from
overseas Federal civilian employment, filing deadlines may not apply to
you. Write the FJIC for additional information.
Notices of Results
──────────────────
You will be sent a Notice of Results showing whether you are eligible
or ineligible. If you are eligible for a position for which a list of
eligibles (competitor inventory) is maintained, your numerical rating
may also be shown. Names of qualified applicants remain on a
competitor inventory list for the period of time shown on the Notice of
Results. If you wish to extend your period of eligibility, please
follow the instructions on the Notice of Results.
