  4. ASSUMPTION:  Frisk's F-PROT program is installed somewhere on your hard drive
  5.              or on a LAN file server drive.

  8. I. ******************************  INSTALL  ******************************
  9. Step 1.  Place only the FxREPEAT.EXE file on your hard drive or on the LAN
  10.          file server drive.
  11.  
  12. Step 2.  Write down:
  13.         a.  The drive letter and path to the F-PROT program.
  14.         b.  The drive letter and path to the FxREPEAT.EXE program.
  15.  
  16. Step 3.  Create a batch file -- any name will do -- as an example use RUNIT.BAT.
  17.          Enter a single line (using your favorite editor) in RUNIT.BAT:

  19.    V:\www\www\FXREPEAT X:\yyy\yyy C:\ /D-1 /HARD /NOBREAK /REPORT=C:\F-PROT.RPT
  20.  
  21.          where V: is the drive on which FXREPEAT.EXE is located.
  22.                \www\www\ is the path on drive V: to FXREPEAT.EXE.
  23.  
  24.                X: is the drive on which F-PROT.EXE is located.
  25.                \yyy\yy is the path on drive X: to F-PROT.EXE.
  26.  
  27.                C:\ tells FXREPEAT to place the F-PROT.!LG log file in C:\.
  28.  
  29.                /D-1 tells FXREPEAT to scan once each day.
  30.  
  31.                /HARD tells F-PROT to scan all local hard drives.
  32.  
  33.                /NOBREAK tells F-PROT to prevent users from stopping the
  34.                         virus scan if they press the <Esc> key.
  35.  
  36.                /REPORT=C:\F-PROT.RPT tells F-PROT to generate a scan report
  37.                         and place it in a file named C:\F-PROT.RPT.

  40. Step 4:  Place RUNIT.BAT somewhere in your Path or on a LAN Search Drive.

  43. II. *******************************  RUN  *******************************
  44. Step 1: Type RUNIT at the DOS prompt and press enter.
  45.  
  46. What will happen:
  47.  
  48.         FXREPEAT.EXE will look for a log file named C:\F-PROT.!LG.  If it
  49.         doesn't exist, F-PROT will be called and run.
  50.  
  51.         F-PROT will scan itself for viruses, scan the workstation's memory
  52.         for viruses then scan the hard disk(s) for viruses.
  53.  
  54.         The C:\F-PROT.RPT file is generated.  If any viruses were found, they
  55.         will be listed in this file.
  56.  
  57.         IF no viruses were found, the C:\F-PROT.!LG file will be written
  58.         with the encrypted date-time.  FXREPEAT.EXE will then terminate.

  63.          IF a virus was found, a message will be displayed, an alarm
  64.         sounded and the keyboard locked.  You will be advised to reboot
  65.         using a write-protected diskette.

  68. III. **********************  ADDITIONAL INFORMATION  **********************
  69. A. When running FXREPEAT additional times, FXREPEAT deciphers the date-time in
  70.    the log file.  If scanning is not needed (frequency determined by the
  71.    time-date parameter), F-PROT is not called.
  72.  
  73. B. Scanning frequencies can be in terms of days (/D-1 for once a day, /D-4 for
  74.    once every 4 days and /D-0 for everytime FXREPEAT is run).
  75.  
  76.    Scanning frequencies can be in terms of hours and minutes (optional) (/T-1
  77.    for no more than once in an hour, /T-36 for no more than once in a 36 hour
  78.    period, /T-5:02 for no more than once in 5 hours and 2 minutes or /T-0 for
  79.    everytime FXREPEAT is run).

  82. IV. ***************************  SUGGESTIONS  ***************************
  83. A. To scan again, delete the C:\F-PROT.!LG log file then rerun RUNIT.BAT.
  84.  
  85. B. To "test" FXREPEAT without using a virus:
  86.      1.  Place the F-CHKOUT.EXE file in the same directory as FXREPEAT.EXE.
  87.      2.  Run RUNIT.BAT.
  88.      3.  Instead of calling F-PROT, the FXREPEAT will run F-CHKOUT.EXE.
  89.      4.  F-CHKOUT will prompt you for a number.  The number you enter will
  90.          be returned to FXREPEAT just as if F-PROT returned a number.
  91.               0 represents a execution of F-PROT.
  92.               3 represents a BOOT Sector or File virus being found.
  93.               4 represents a virus signature being found in memory.
  94.               (Check the F-PROT documentation for additional details).
  95.  
  96.      5.  If a  "0" is returned, a new log file (C:\F-CHK.!LG) will created
  97.          and used as long as F-CHKOUT.EXE is in the directory.  Remove
  98.          F-CHKOUT.EXE when testing is completed.
  99.  
  100. C. Place a line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to execute FXREPEAT everytime
  101.    your workstation is booted..... or ... Place the line in a BATCH
  102.    file called by your LAN Login Script.  This file can then execute
  103.    your LAN Menuing system after FXREPEAT has completed.
