Script Modem Terminal is not designed to load and run by itself.
SMT requires a script file (one with the .stf extension) to be
passes to it as an input parameter at the dos command prompt.
Aside from facilitating connects and login's by responding
automatically to various input prompts for names, passwords
etc., the script file is also responsible for initializing
the serial port with correct COM specifications for the port,
irq, baud and line settings. To run SMT like any ordinary Com
program, it will be necessary to use one of four .STF files
provided with the package. SMT1.STF for COM1, SMT2.STF for
COM2, SMT3.STF for COM3 or SMT4.STF for COM4. Assuming your
pc is set for COM2, type "SMT SMT2.SFT" at the dos command
prompt. After the terminal screen appears, try typing "AT"
followed by the <Enter> key. If the modem responds "OK",
everything has initialized correctly. If not, read the docs
for additional information about non standard coms and irqs.
If you are unsure what serial port is active on your PC, type
"SMT TESTPORT" at the dos command prompt. SMT will interrogate
your serial hardware and advise you what it found.
