Disconnect Failed
Having the disconnect fail simply
means that the modem still reads
as being online.
Check to make sure that:
A) your modem's dip switches
are set so that the modem
will read offline when it
really is offline
B) your modem's internal
setup (i.e. the init
string) is configured to
properly detect carrier
(usually &C1) and
set to disconnect the
modem upon lowering the
DTR (usually &D2)
C) if you are using the
+++ type escape sequence,
make sure the disconnect
sequence is correctly
configured for your modem
Dos Shells
L ∙ Local Shell (standard)
R ∙ Remote Shell (gateway)
The Remote Dos Shell is a feature
which allows you to shell to dos
and include the person whom you
are connected with.
During a Remote Dos Shell, if the
SCROLL LOCK light is ON, then
the remote user will not be able
to type while in your DOS.
During a Remote Dos Shell, if the
user disconnects or if the remote
system is echoing characters back,
then a loop-back state will occur;
turn SCROLL LOCK on to circumvent
a lockup.

Requested Filename Unacceptable
Lcom has been asked to read from
or write to a filename which is
not acceptable.
Examples of this would be trying
to read from the file PRN
(printer) or trying to write to
the file ".." (the directory
symbol).
File not found
Lcom has been asked to access a
file which does not exist (at
least not in the path it expects
it to)
File Exists
A file which already exists is
about to be overwritten.
You can continue and overwrite
the old file, or you can abort.
If a concatenate option exists,
concatenation refers to the
adding on to the end of the
original file.
Out of Disk Space
The disk which Lcom would be
writing to does not have enough
space remaining to complete the
write
Too many open files
You have run out of
"file handles".
The number of file handles
available to Lcom is determined
by the line "files = ##" in your
CONFIG.SYS file; please increase
the number found there.
Unexpected File Size
This message occurs when Lcom has
read from a file which is larger
or smaller than was expected
The file is most likely corrupted

The Filename is the name of the

created earlier by typing ALT-S
The Remote Abort Character, if
not zero, is the character by
which Lcom will automatically
end the transfer
The Pace Character, if not zero,
is the character by which Lcom
will wait for to send the next
line of text in an ascii upload
The line Delay is how many
milliseconds between each line of
text Lcom will wait before sending
the next
The Output Rate is the speed that
characters will be sent.
This will only work correctly on
non-buffered connections;
otherwise the speed will be
higher than rated
Stripping the high bit refers to
simulating a seven-bit connection
Expanding blank lines refers to
adding a space on blank lines of
an ascii upload to insure the
text will be received correctly
on systems which terminate
reception on the first blank line
Linefeed translation refers to
various ways of manipulating the
flow of linefeeds in an ascii
upload
Return translation refers to
various ways of manipulating the
flow of carriage returns in an

Valid Macro Keys
This key is so critical that Lcom
will not allow you to macro it
Macro Keys
You've macro'd a key which is used
somewhere else in the program.
You are now preventing that part
of the program from being
accessed -- the macro has
precedence.
Valid Macro Keys
You are being prompted to enter
the key which will trigger this
macro.
You can press both shift keys
(simultaneously) to clear out
the value.
ESC will abort
Incoming Macro Activation Sequence
Enter the sequence of characters
which Lcom will look for to
activate this macro
Select Printer
Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to
select the desired printer
Press Enter to continue
Emulation
The emulation, as it pertains to
here, is the method by which color
will be handled.
Line Header
The line header exists to
facilitate "Quoting"
For example:
┌───────────────────────────┐
│AT │
│OK │
│ │
│ ^ sample text │
│ │
└───────────────────────────┘
If you blocked off the above text
and you set your line header to be
example>, then the output would be
example>AT
example>OK
Refresh Speed Indexation
In order to boost the performance
of the Review Buffer at high
capacities (above 512k), a high
speed indexing system was created.
The result of this is that the
Review Buffer is more prone to
becoming corrupt.
This command was created to allow
you to try to un-corrupt your
scrollback if it has become
corrupt.
If your Review Buffer is still
corrupted in some significant
way after using this command,
it is then recommended that you
clear the buffer.

Auto-Answer
With auto-answer on, your modem
will automatically answer the
phone when it rings.
This command sends a predefined
sequence to your modem in order to
enter the desired state.
This sequence may be different
from the one your modem needs;
for this reason you can change
that sequence in the setup.
Note: You need be offline for
this command to work
Modem Volume
You can control the volume of
your modem's speaker with this
option.
This command sends a predefined
sequence to your modem in order to
enter the desired state.
This sequence may be different
from the one your modem needs;
for this reason you can change
that sequence in the setup.
Note: You need be offline for
this command to work
Emulation Type
The Terminal Emulation is a
video standard similar to the
concepts of CGA vs EGA, but at
a different level.
Your emulation type must match the
emulation type being sent to you
over the modem.
ANSI-BBS is the most common
emulation, which includes: ANSI,
VT-52, and limited support for
VT100, VT102, and WYSE99.
In Lcom, the AVATAR and LVI
emulations also include ANSI-BBS
support.
Adding Machine
This behaves like your ordinary
calculator. You can add,
subtract, multiply, and divide.
UP/DOWN ∙ Increment/Decrement
LEFT ∙ Output in Binary

Activity Alarm
The Activity Alarm is an aid for
you while in conversations with
people over the modem.
Lcom will beep after a period of
a change in modem activity
i.e. If a person is typing and
then stops, the computer would
then beep; likewise, Lcom would
beep when the typing has resumed.
