  1. Welcome to the download calculator overview.
  2.  
  3. If you want to make your life easy, but haven't got your postfile.scr running,
  4. unzip dlcalc.zip to a directory, change to that directory, and then run
  5. @icom.scr. It'll install the download calculator script as well as provide
  6. a demo, online help, etc... Otherwise, copy dlcalc.scr to your script
  7. directory and read through the following to figure out what it does.

  9. NOTE: if you want to run the download calculator from a function key, rename
  10. dlcalc.scr to one of the following:

  23. Overview:

  25. The download calculator is a script which reads a selected tagger database
  26. and computes the following:
  27.  
  28.     Total number of files to download
  29.     Total number of bytes to download
  30.     Estimated download time (*)
  31.     Name of the largest file to download
  32.     Size of the largest file to download
  33.     Name of the smallest file to download
  34.     Size of the smallest file to download
  35.  
  36. (*) Note: The Estimated download time can only be calculated if the average
  37. download rate has been defined. You can compute this by looking at your
  38. .use files and computing the average download CPS (characters per second).
  39. Then, enter Intellicom, select Intellicom Setup followed by
  40. File Tagger Settings and fill in your average download rate at the
  41. File Transfer Speed [CPS] prompt. The download calculator uses this
  42. variable for its calculations.

  44. Installation:
  45.  
  46. This install script will automatically copy the download calculator script
  47. to your script directory. You can override the default script directory
  48. by selecting the Change Install Directory option from the main menu.
  49. By default, the script will be copied to the default script directory.

  51. Select the Install Script option of the main menu to install the script.
  52. When installing, you have the choice of either installing the download
  53. calculator as a standard script (dlcalc.scr), or it can be renamed to  
  54. be executed from a function key.

  56. If you elect to install the script to execute from a function key, you
  57. will be prompted to select the desired function key. Note: If you select
  58. a function key which is already in use, you'll be prompted before overwriting.
  59. The install script will then copy the download calculator to the appropriate
  60. key code for the desired function key.

  62. For ease of use, I strongly recommend installing the download calculator
  63. to a function key.

  65. Sample Operation:
  66.  
  67. Here's a sample scenario of how I use the download calculator. First,
  68. I enter Tagger and select the files that I want to download. Then,
  69. I press F10 (where I have the download calculator installed) to pop up
  70. the download calculator. It then prompts for the tagger database to
  71. search (by default this is NEWFILES). After selecting the database,
  72. the download calculator computes and displays the various download
  73. statistics. That's all there is to it!

  75. For people who don't want to run the script from a function key, press
  76. ALT-U to load the script editor and run DLCALC.SCR. Note that
  77. the script can be run at any time.
