  20.         Instant Relatives was written to help genealogists extend their
  21.         lines without repeating other's research.  PAF has a match feature
  22.         but it only matches on data that is exact in spelling.  INSTRL is
  23.         more flexible; it will report "possible" matches.  You can compare
  24.         single or multiple GEDCOM files.  INSTRL does not perform merging.
  25.         It also does not match families, only individuals, though it looks
  26.         at the parents' names to help decide if an individual matches.

  28.         INSTRL has been tested with two kinds of GEDCOM formats, Personal
  29.         Ancestral File (PAF), version 2.2, and the GEDCOM created by the
  30.         International Genealogical Index (IGI) PC computers.  PAF will
  31.         create a GEDCOM file from the genealogy information that it
  32.         stores.  There are also other programs that create GEDCOM files.

  34.         INSTRL begins by looking at the first record in data-base 2.  This
  35.         may or may not be the first record in your GEDCOM file.  It then
  36.         searches data-base 1 for any matches.  Those that match are
  37.         displayed.  This continues until all records have been processed. 
  38.         To determine matches, it uses: given name, surname, birth or
  39.         christening date and place, mother and father's names.  These
  40.         fields are weighted in such a way that if they match, a score is
  41.         increased.  The score is decreased if the field does not match. 
  42.         If the final score is greater than or equal to a user adjustable
  43.         threshold, the two records are considered a match.
