  6.                Just as GSA auctions surplus property for civilian
  7.           government agencies, the Department of Defense sells
  8.           surplus Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps property. 
  9.           From the Defense Department you might buy needed
  10.           bearings, chemicals, chains, cables, alarm systems,
  11.           aircraft parts, hand tools, air conditioners, cleaning
  12.           supplies, computer equipment, prefabricated structures,
  13.           textiles, electric wire, and woodworking gear.
  14.                The Defense Department has a reputation for selling
  15.           merchandise at extremely low prices -- beat-up cars for
  16.           $200 or less, for example.  Occasionally the military
  17.           screws up and purchases items in the wrong size or the
  18.           wrong color.  This brand-new merchandise may be auctioned
  19.           off for a fraction of the going rate.

  52.           do more than 100 local marketing offices around the U.S.
  53.           often at military bases.  The regional office nearest you
  54.           can provide addresses and phone numbers of local offices.
  55.                In a typical Defense Department auction, previews
  56.           are held for a full day, three days before the actual
  57.           sale.  If you place a winning bid, you generally have
  58.           five days to pay in full with cash or a cashier's check. 
  59.           The Defense Department will accept money wired directly
  60.           from your bank.
  61.                In addition to auctions of surplus property, the
  62.           Defense Department will frequently sell merchandise from
  63.           a contractor's leftover inventory.  For information,
