  1.         I.  Introduction
  2.         Welcome to the World of Electronic Tax Filing!  This software
  3.         package, ETF93, allows you to input all of your tax 
  4.         information for filing to the IRS.  This version is for
  5.         taxpayers (and not tax-preparers).  We have a tax-preparer
  6.         version available, please call for more information if you're
  7.         interested.
  8.  
  9.         This version is marketed as shareware.  The software is fully 
  10.         functional and is NOT crippled in any way.  It allows you to 
  11.         file tax return information for the following forms:
  12.  
  13.         Form 1040, Form 1040A, 1040EZ, Schedule A, Schedule B, Schedule C 
  14.         (long form), Schedule C-EZ (short form),Schedule D, Schedule E, 
  15.         Schedule EIC, Schedule F, Schedule R, Schedule SE (long form), 
  16.         Schedule SE (short form), Schedule 1, Schedule 2, Schedule 3, 
  17.         Form W-2, Form W-2G, Form 1099-R, Form 1116, Form 2106, Form 2119, 
  18.         Form 2210, Form 2210-F, Form 2441, Form 3903, Form 4136, Form 4137, 
  19.         Form 4255, Form 4562, Form 4684, Form 4797, Form 4835, Form 4952, 
  20.         Form 4970, Form 4972, Form 5329, Form 6198, Form 6251, Form 6252, 
  21.         Form 8283, Form 8396, Form 8582, Form 8606, Form 8615, Form 8814, 
  22.         Form 8815, Form 8828 and Form 8829.

  24.         You will not be filing directly with the IRS; instead you will be 
  25.         creating a "data collection disk" to send to us for reformatting.  
  26.         We in turn submit the information directly to the IRS.
  27.  
  28.         If you are required to submit state information in the forms 
  29.         listed above, you can still use this package.  You will have to
  30.         file your state return information via the normal paper method
  31.         to your state's tax/revenue department.

  33.         II. Software Installation
  34.         This package was compressed using PKZIP.  Please copy the 
  35.         entire distribution zip file to a new directory (you can call 
  36.         it whatever you wish) and invoke pkunzip in the following 
  37.         manner:

  39.                 PKUNZIP -d etf93a
  40.                 PKUNZIP -d etf93b
  41.  
  42.         The -d option creates a new subdirectory under your new 
  43.         directory called taxdbf.  Please do not directly edit any of 
  44.         these files, or the integrity of your tax information will be 
  45.         degraded.
  46.  
  47.         III.  Invoking the Software
  48.         When you've finished extracting the software, you can invoke 
  49.         the package by typing in:

  51.                 ETF93
  52.  
  53.         followed by a carriage return.  The menus are fairly 
  54.         straightforward and self-explanatory.
  55.  
  56.         IV.  Assumptions
  57.         As a software author and electronic tax information 
  58.         transmitter, I have to assume that you have the following 
  59.         things (without which you really have no need to run this 
  60.         program):
  61.                 1.  A computer with at least 450K free ram
  62.                 2.  3.5 megabytes of free disk space 
  63.                 3.  Access to a postscript compatible printer.
  64.                 4.  Completely filled-out paper version(s) of the tax 
  65.                     forms/schedules you wish to file electronically.
  66.  
  67.         If you don't have all of the above, you may only use this 
  68.         software for educational purposes.  If you have a printer that is not
  69.         EPSON FX compatible, please take a look at the shareware registration
  70.         form (sharewar.reg) and register this software package.  Registration
  71.         ensures that you have the correct printer dump file for Form 8453.
  72.         If you do have all of the above, GREAT!  You may actually use this 
  73.         software and file your tax information through us to the IRS.

  75.         V.  Payment
  76.  
  77.         While this software is free, and it doesn't really cost you anything
  78.         to use this package, you will, most likely, want to actually file
  79.         your tax information to the IRS.  You cannot do this directly as
  80.         a taxpayer (If you could, we wouldn't have written this package!).
  81.         You will be creating a data collection disk, which you will be
  82.         mailing back to us, along with several forms that are printed on
  83.         your printer.  We do charge for filing your return to the IRS.
  84.         The fees, we think, are nominal compared to other tax-related
  85.         service companies.

  87.         We accept Visa, Mastercard, money orders, cash, personal and 
  88.         business checks.  The fee schedule is as follows:

  114.         ETF1099 Electronic Tax Filing for the 1099 series of Tax Forms.  
  115.                 These include the following forms:

  117.                 Form 1099-MISC, Form 1099-PATR, Form 1099-R, Form 5498,
  118.                 Form 1099-A, Form 1099-B, Form 1099-OID, Form 1099-S and

  121.         ETF93BBS  A BBS-Door version of the ETF93 package, to be run and 
  122.                 administered by BBS-sysops.  If you are sysop and wish 
  123.                 to run this software, you need to file form 8633 with 
  124.                 the IRS immediately.  If you are a BBS Sysop, please give 
  125.                 us a call for more information.

  127.         1099BBS  A BBS-Door version of the ETF1099 software package.

  131.         VIII.  Shareware Registration
  132.         If you would like to register this software, the shareware 
  133.         registration fee is $5.00.  For registering this software, you 
  134.         will receive the latest generation of the software package 
  135.         (whether it's a new revision or a new tax year, depending on 
  136.         the IRS' tax changes) and/or the correct printer dump file for
  137.         Form 8453 for your printer.  Please print out the file 
  138.         "sharewar.reg", fill it out, and mail it in with payment at 
  139.         any time.

  142.         The product (ETF93) is copywritten under the laws of the 
  143.         United States by the Electronic Filing Group, P.O. Box 270539, 
  144.         Houston, TX 77277-0539.  This version is being released as shareware,
  145.         with the provision that you or anyone else may copy it and give it
  146.         to a friend.  If you do make copies, please make copies of the
  147.         original archive, and NOT your data.  You are free to upload it to
  148.         any BBS, and if you are a Shareware Distribution Company, you may
  149.         include this package in your catalog(s).

  152.         editing purposes will be fully prosecuted to the extent of the law,

  159.         This software package does NOT make any computations based on ANY
  160.         tax tables provided by the IRS.  The authors of this software
  161.         package assume that you, the taxpayer, are smart enough to know
  162.         what goes in which line of each form.  If you expected this
  163.         software to do the compututation for you; well, we apologize pro-
  164.         fusely.
