FILE OPERATIONS:
BOBCAT makes it easy to handle your files and you can quickly
move to any drive from A: to Z: by simply pressing the letter
corresponding to the drive you would like to move to. Program
is able to display up to 748 filenames in each directory.
Press [Esc] to return to the main option window and press the
number key [1] to access File options or place the highlight
bar over any filename an press [ENTER] to access File options.
VIEWING FILES:
To view a document file, select any ascii file by highlighting
it and press function key F1. You can simply press the [ENTER]
key to view any ascii document that is highlighted. The viewer
will also list the directory contents of ARC LZH and ZIP files.
More details can be found a little farther down.
The viewer enables you to move ahead or back a line at a time
and by a page at a time. You can also view to the right or the
left and the option to move directly to the end or return to
the beginning of the document file.
SEARCHING FOR A WORD OR SENTENCE:
To search for a word or sentence press F1 and type in the word
or sentence-press [ENTER]. If found the string will appear at
the top line of the screen in inverse color. To repeat the same
search first scroll the just found string up off the top of the
screen and again press F1 followed by [ENTER].
PRINTING THE SCREEN:
To send the currently displayed screen to the printer press F2.
You are next asked to press 1 if your printer is using LPT1 or
2 if using LPT2. In most cases you would press 1.
AUTO SCROLLING:
To view in Auto Scroll press F2 to activate the auto scroll
feature. This will scroll the screen one line up for a delay
of 3 seconds then scroll another line continuing until any key
is pressed. Press the [gray -] or [gray +] to de/increase speed.
LISTING DIRECTORIES OF COMPRESSED FILES:
* This feature will not support extended pathnames. *
If when the F1 View file option is pressed and the highlighted
filename is a compressed file ending in one of the following
extensions - ARC, LZH, or ZIP the file will be read and a
new directory listing will appear displaying all files within
the compressed file. This option makes it simple to extract and
delete individual or groups of files within a compressed file
using the file compression feature.
Press F1 to extract the currently highlighted or tagged files.
Press F2 to delete the currently highlighted or tagged files.
Press F3 or Space Bar to tag files for extraction or deletion.
COPYING FILES:
To copy a file select a name by highlighting and pressing F2.
Type in a target destination for the file and press [ENTER].
Example: A: [ENTER]
Example: C:\PROGRAMS [ENTER]
If the file being copied already exists on the target you will
be asked if you wish to copy over the existing file. Press Y
for Yes or N for No.
This copy option copies over any existing files of the same name.
To copy groups of files use the tagging option explained below
in "TAGGING FILES". After tagging press the Copy option type in
the target destination for the files press [ENTER]. You will be
requested to insert a new diskette whenever the target disk
becomes full.

MOVING FILES:
Moves can be done between different drives. To move a single
file select any filename by highlighting and press function
key F3. Type in a target destination for the file and press
the [ENTER] key.
Example: A: [ENTER]
Example: C:\PROGRAMS [ENTER]
If the file being moved already exists on the target you will
be asked if you wish to copy over the existing file. Press Y
for Yes or N for No.

in "TAGGING FILES". After tagging press the Move option type in
the target destination for the files and press [ENTER]. You will

To delete a file select any filename by highlighting and press
function key F2. You will then be requested to verify that the
highlighted file be deleted, press Y for yes N for No.

in "TAGGING FILES". You will be asked to verify that you wish
all tagged files be deleted, press Y for yes N for No.
TAGGING FILES:
To tag any filename highlight the filename in question and press
the Space Bar. To untag the filename you again highlight the name
and press the space bar. To clear multiple tags press the current
drive letter to reset the directory of filenames. The number of
files tagged and number of bytes tagged is displayed at the bottom
of the file list window.
RENAMING FILES:
To rename a file select any filename by highlighting and press
function key F5. Type in a new name for the file and press the
[ENTER] key.
CHANGING FILE DATE OR TIME:
You can change any files date or time stamp by highlighting
the file and pressing function key F6. Choose option [D] to
set New Date or [T] to set New Time.
To change the date or time of groups of files first tag each
file before you call the date/time setting option.
Example to set New File Time:
Time as a AM value for 7:55a type 07 and 55 when requested.
Time as a PM value for 5:05p type 17 and 05 when requested.

Example to set New File Date:
To set the Date as 05-21-1991 when requested type 05 21 1991
To set the Date as 11-04-1989 when requested type 11 04 1989
CHANGING FILE ATTRIBUTES:
To change any files attribute to either normal read only or
hidden highlight the file and press F7. At the request press
the letter [N]ormal [R]ead only [H]idden. Whenever you hide
or make a file read only the file will be marked as such right
after the files time stamp with a letter R or H. Hidden files
will not be listed by DOS's directory command or by most other
programs but they are always viewable from within the BOBCAT
program regardless of there attribute.
The attribute setting option permits tagging groups of files.
To set groups of files use the tagging option explained above
in "TAGGING FILES".
SORTNG FILES:
Press function key F8 to display the file Sorting menu.
Sorting methods:
F1......Sort displayed files alphabetically by First Name.
F2......Sort displayed files alphabetically by Extension.
F3......Sort displayed files by file size.
F4......Sort displayed files by file date.
F5......Sort files using wildcards first name or extension.
F6......Tags all files of the currently highlighted first name.
F7......Tags all files of the currently highlighted extension.
F8......Tags all files of the currently highlighted date.
F9......Sends the sorted file name list to the printer.
F10.....Searchs all specified drives in all directories and
optionally all compressed ZIP, LZH, and ARC files for
any occurrences of filename.
FILE NOTES:
Press F9 to add descriptive notes to your file names, up to a
50 character description. Press letter A to create/edit a note
for the currently highlighted directory name. Press letter B to
delete the note of the currently highlighted file name. Maximum
number of file and directory notes within each directory is
currently 100 notes.
PRINTING A FILE:
Printing requires that you use a 60 line page layout starting
at the very top of the first page when printing multiple pages.
To send a text file to your printer first highlight the file
and press F10. Next press the number 1 or 2 depending on which
parallel port your printer is connected to - LPT1 or LPT2.
1.........Print to LPT1.
2.........Print to LPT2.
Esc..............Cancel.
After picking one of the above you can choose one or more of
the following options. Choosing no printing options will use
your printers default settings.
F1.......outlined shadow font.
F2............compressed font.
F3............emphasized font.
F4...............italics font.
F5............underlined font.
F6...........superscript font.
F7.............ascii graphics.
F8...........add page numbers.
F10.................reset all. <- cancel out any settings.
R....red ink.
B....blue ink.
G....green ink.
Y....yellow ink.
Enter...begin.
Esc.....cancel.
Option F8 add page numbers will print the word "Page #" at the
"bottom" of each page starting at number 1 and incrementing.
When the document to be printed contains formfeed codes imbedded
within it the "Page #" is printed at the "top" of each page.

DIRECTORY OPERATIONS:
BOBCAT enables you to move from one directory to another by
simply pressing a key. This enables very rapid movement with
in complex subdirectories.
Press [Esc] to return to the main option window and press the
number key [2] to access the directory options or place the
highlight bar over any directory name and press [ENTER].
CHANGING DIRECTORIES:
To change to another directory first highlight the directory
name. Once highlighted press function key F1 to move to that
directory. You can also move to a highlighted directory by
pressing the [ENTER] key whenever the directory options window
is active.
BOBCAT is able to display up to 748 filenames in a directory.
The double dot .. entry is an alias for the directory's parent
or in other words the directory just above the current one. To
return to the parent simply highlight the double dot .. entry
and press function key F1 or press the [ENTER] key.
CREATING DIRECTORIES:
To create a new directory press function key F2. At the request
type in your new directory name and press the [ENTER] key.
DELETING DIRECTORIES:
You can easily delete any directory entry if that directory is
empty of files or other subdirectories. To delete a directory
you first highlight that directory name and press function key
F3. The directory can not be deleted unless the directory is
empty of all files and subdirectories.
RENAMING DIRECTORIES:
Highlight the directory name and press function key F4, type
in the new directory name and press the [ENTER] key. BOBCAT
permits up to 8 letter names plus a 3 letter extension.
LIST ALL DIRECTORY PATHS:
Press F5 to display all directories and subdirectories on the
current drive. Once all pathnames are displayed you can then
highlight a path press the [ENTER] key and quickly move to that
directory. The number of files and number of bytes used by each
highlighted path is displayed at the bottom of the list window.
GRAFTING DIRECTORIES:
To graft a directory or subdirectory to another you highlight
the directory to be moved and press F1. Next move the highlight
bar over the directory path you wish to move to and press the
[ENTER] key. Press Y to verify the move or press N to cancel.
PRINTING DIRECTORY LISTING:
To send a complete listing of all directory paths on the current
drive to the printer press F2. Choose 1 for LPT1 or 2 for LPT2.
LOCKING DIRECTORIES:
To lock a directory highlight the directory path and press F6.
The directory date will be followed by a letter "L" indicating
a locked state. This effectively disables any access to the
directory by hiding it from DOS "dir" command and many other
applications. BOBCAT however sees everything but will alert the
user with a warning if any unauthorized attempt is made to enter
the locked directory. To unlock the directory highlight the path
name and again press the F6 key.
DIRECTORY NOTES:
Press F7 to add descriptive notes to your directory names, up
to a 50 character description. Press letter A to create/edit a
note for the currently highlighted name. Press B to delete the
note of the currently highlighted name. The maximum number of
file and directory notes for each directory is 100.
RENAME LABEL:
By pressing F8 you can change an existing volume label name or
create a new one. The label name cannot exceed 11 characters.

EDITING AND CREATING FILES.
Press [Esc] to return to the main option window and press the
number key [3] for the Editing window. To edit any existing file
highlight the filename an press F1. To create a new file press F2.
The editor displays the line number at the current cursor position
up to line number 60 then resets to line number 1. This indicates
the start of a new page. With in the editor you can press F1 for
a description of all editing options. Edits files up to 64,000
bytes in size.

TYPED IN COMMANDS:
Press [Esc] to return to the main option window and press the
number key [4] to access the DOS window. You can easily type in
any of your commands as you do at the DOS prompt by pressing F1.
After your typed in command is activated and has completed its
task you will be requested to "Strike a key when ready" before
returning to the BOBCAT program.

LAUNCHING A PROGRAM:
Press [Esc] to return to the main option window and press the
number key [4] to access the DOS window. To launch a executable
program highlight the filename and press F2.
To launch your BATch files BOBCAT requires that you first edit
each one. Place the pathname and the BOBCAT.EXE name at the
end of your BAT file as the last command.
Ex: C:\BBCAT\BOBCAT <- last command in your BATch file.
or
Ex: A:\BOBCAT <- last command in your BATch file.
Now all you do is highlight your BATch file program and press
function key F2 - to launch.

COMPRESS DECOMPRESSING FILES:
Be sure the LHA.EXE file is in the same directory as the
BOBCAT program for the compression, decompression to work.
COMPRESSING FILES:
Press [Esc] to return to the main option window and press the
number key [5] to access the utility window.
To compress a file you first highlight the filename and press
function key F1. You are then requested to type in a name
for the created compressed file and press [ENTER].
To compress groups of files you must first tag the files to be
compressed using the Tag option and press F1. You then type in
a path and filename for the created archive.
DECOMPRESSING FILES:
Press [Esc] to return to the main option window and press the
number key [5] to access the utility window.
To decompress a compressed file first highlight the compressed
filename that ends with ".LZH" and press key F2. The archive is
decompressed to the current directory.

FORMATING A DISKETTE:
This formatting option is very easy to use even for a novice.
Easily formats floppy disks on drives A or B in sizes 360K 720K
1.2M and 1.44M floppies. You'll never be annoyed again be that
"Non-System disk or disk error" message when you leave a disk
in the A drive. BOBCAT formatted disks force the boot process
to fall through to your C drive when you forget and leave a disk
in your floppy drive A.
Press [Esc] to return to the main option window and press the
number key [5] to access the utility window.
To format a disk press function key F4, if there are two disk
drives you are asked to choose either drive A or B. Choose which
disk type to format, press [1] to format a 360K or 720K diskette
press [2] to format a 1.2M or 1.44M diskette.

ACTIVATING USER ASSIGNMENTS:
To use this feature you must have completed the changing user
assignments PART 6 in HELP 10. Press [Esc] to return to the
main option window and press the number key 6 thru number 9
to access the Assignment windows. Press the assigned function
key you want to activate.
If you requested that a highlighted filename be added to your
menu assignment you must first highlight the filename before
you activate your assigned command.

ANIMATED SCREEN BLANKING:
BOBCAT's animated screen blanker watches the clock until "8"
minutes of inactivity then blanks the screen. Pressing any
key returns the original screen contents. You can optionally
redirect the blanker to launch any valid executable program.
For example, you could launch your "GIF" viewer to display
your favorite picture or run your own none resident screen
blanking program.
To assign this option to launch your program follow these steps.
Step 1: Press [Esc] to return to the main option window.
Step 2: Press the number [0] key to access the Setup options.
Step 3: Press F1 - Colors.
Step 4: Press the letter [O] for Screen blanking.
Step 5: At the request press N for No to not save change.
Step 6: Again press the letter [O] for Screen blanking.
Step 7: Press the space bar or any letter key.
Step 8: Type in at the prompt the full path name of the
program you wish to be launched and press [ENTER].
Ex: C:\GRAPHICS\GIFVIEW C:\GIFS\MYBEST.GIF [ENTER]
or
Ex: C:\GRAPHICS\DAZZLE.EXE [ENTER]
Step 9: At the request press Y for Yes to save setup change.
NOTE:
The blanker can also be activated by pressing CTRL-S.

BOBCAT CUSTOMIZING:
If at anytime you are not sure of what to do, or want to
cancel the option you activate, simply press the Esc key.
All following operations will be accomplished in steps, each
step will be indicated with either an example and or you will
see displayed on the BOBCAT screen a request prompt. At any
requested input simply press the proper key or type in the
correct response.

CHANGING BOBCAT COLORS:
If you find the default color settings or background not to
your liking its easily changed in the following steps.
Step 1: Press [Esc] to return to the main option window.
Step 2: Press the number [0] key to access the Setup options.
Step 3: Press F1 - Colors.
Step 4: Press option for the window setting in question.
Step 5: Choose a color by placing cursor over color option
using the arrow keys and press [ENTER].
Step 6: At the request press Y for Yes to save color change.

CHANGING EDITORS:
BOBCAT will need to know the drive,pathname and the filename
of the editor or word processor you will be using with the
program.
BOBCAT includes a small ascii text editor that will do for
many of you. The editor program is called BBEDIT.COM and
BOBCAT is already setup to use it, however, if you would
like to assign your own editor or word processor proceed
with the following steps.
Step 1: Press [Esc] to return to the main option window.
Step 2: Press number [0] key to access the Setup options.
Step 3: Press F2 - Editor.
Step 4: Type in at the prompt the full path and name of
your editor and press [ENTER].
Ex: C:\BBCAT\BBEDIT [ENTER]
or
Ex: C:\WP\LITE [ENTER]
Step 5: At the request press Y for Yes to save change.

compression program and press [ENTER].
Ex: C:\BBCAT\LHA D [ENTER]

Ex: C:\PK\PKZIP -R [ENTER]
Step 5: At the request press Y for Yes to save change.

CREATING or CHANGING USER ASSIGNMENTS:
Here is where you can add more power to BOBCAT by assigning up
to 40 commands or programs that are activated by a key press.
Assign each to a function key and enter your own description
of each assignment. After activation of any of your commands
or programs you automatically return to the BOBCAT program.
Step 1: Press [Esc] to return to the main option window.
Step 2: Press number [0] key to access the Setup options.
Step 3: Press F6 - Assignments #6.
Step 4: Press function key you wish to assign to your command.
Step 5: Type in at the prompt the full path,name,parameters
of your command and press [ENTER].
Ex: C:\UTILITY\FIND "Johnson" [ENTER]
Step 6: Press the letter Y (add) or N (not add) a highlighted
filename after the program command string.
Step 7: Press the letter Y (pause) or N (not pause) before
reloading the BOBCAT program.
Step 8: Type in up to a 16 character description of your
assignment and press [ENTER].
Step 9: Type in up to a 16 character description of your
menu window and press [ENTER] or [ESC] to skip.
Step 10: At the request press Y for Yes to save change.
HERE'S A COMPLETE EXAMPLE:
Lets assume you would like to make a quick backup of the
complete disk contents of drive A: and would like it copied
to the B: disk drive using DOS's - DISKCOPY.EXE program.
Step 1: Press [Esc] to return to the main option window.
Step 2: Press the number [0] key to access the Setup options.
Step 3: Press F6 - Assignments #6.
Step 4: Press function key you wish to assign to your command.
Step 5: Type in at the prompt the full path,name,parameters
of your command and press [ENTER].
Ex: C:\UTILITY\DISKCOPY A: B: [ENTER]
Step 6: Press N for No to not add a highlighted filename
after the program command string.
Step 7: Press N for No to not pause before reloading BOBCAT.
Step 8: Now type in up to a 16 character description of your
assignment and press [ENTER].
Step 9: Next type in up to a 16 character description of your
menu window (Ex: Utilities #1) press [ENTER].
Step 10: At the Request Press Y for Yes to save change.
ASSIGNING BATCH FILES:
To launch your BATch files BOBCAT requires that you first edit
each one. Place the pathname and the BOBCAT.EXE name at the
end of your BAT files as the last batch command.
Ex: C:\BBCAT\BOBCAT <- last command in your BATch file.
Another much simpler method is to use the batch file command
CALL. For example if I wanted to run a batch file named
GAME.BAT I could type my assignment as CALL C:\GAME.BAT .
This would run GAME.BAT and then return to BOBCAT without the
need to add BOBCAT's path and name at the end of the GAME.BAT .
