  5. This file contains essential information you need to start using the
  6. Trench program.  Much more detail is supplied in the user manual which
  7. you can view while using the program or which you might choose to print.
  8.  
  9. This is a full functioning version of Trench.  It is not crippled,
  10. time-trapped or nobbled in any way.  The registered version of the
  11. program has the shareware sign-on screen removed and contains a utility
  12. for backing up and restoring data.

  14. This file is divided into the following sections:

  21. 1. Installation

  24.      1.1  Make sure you are in the 'root' directory of your hard
  25.           drive, type:

  27.                 CD \ <Enter>
  28.                                                                       
  29.      1.2  Make a directory on your hard drive called Trench.
  30.                                                                       
  31.                 MD Trench <Enter>
  32.                                                                       
  33.      1.3  Move to the Trench directory.
  34.                                                                       
  35.                 CD Trench <Enter>
  36.                                                                       
  37.      1.4  Copy the file TREN18.EXE into the Trench directory.

  39.                 COPY Tren18.EXE  \Trench <Enter>
  40.                                                                       
  41.      1.5  Unpack the TREN18.EXE file by typing:

  43.                 TREN18 <Enter>

  45.           You will notice that the Trench program now uncrunches and
  46.           installs in your Trench Directory.  When this is done, you
  47.           can get rid on the install file on your hard drive
  48.           (carefully) by entering this command:

  50.                 DEL TREN18.EXE <Enter>
  51.                                                                       
  52.           Please note, the number 18 refers to the version number - 108.
  53.           If you have a later version of the program, this number might
  54.           be different, for example 19 or 20.

  57. 2.  Starting the Trench Program
  58. ===============================

  60.      Once the installation is complete.  Start the program by
  61.      entering the command:

  63.           Trench <Enter>
  64.                                                                       
  65.      If you have a monochrome monitor, you can force Trench to
  66.      display in monochrome by entering the command:
  67.                                                                       
  68.           Trench M <Enter>
  69.                                                                       
  70.           The initial screen is the shareware sign-on screen.  This   
  71.      screen can be exited by pressing the keys <ALT-F10>.  Please     
  72.      review the screen and if you choose to use Trench please
  73.      register and support the shareware concept.  The shareware screen
  74.      is not in the registered version of the program.

  80.      If you receive the Trench program from a bulletin board, the entire
  81.      program and all files will be packed into a single file called
  82.      TREN18.EXE.

  84.      Once you unpack the file TREN18.EXE you should have the following
  85.      files:

  87.         README.1ST    - this program file
  88.         ORDER.DOC     - registration / order form.
  89.         VENDOR.DOC    - vendor distribution information.
  90.         FILE_ID.DIZ   - BBS identification.
  91.         Trench.txt    - User Manual
  92.         TRENCH.EXE    - Trench Program files
  93.         TRENCH1.OVL
  94.         TRENCH2.OVL
  95.         TRENCH3.OVL
  96.         Prj.dbf       - Data files

  103. 4. Printing the Trench User Manual

  106.      Once you complete the installation, you can print a copy of the
  107.      Trench User Manual.  The manual is in a file called TRENCH.TXT.
  108.      Print the file using the DOS print command:
