  4.     Welcome to RoboMail 1.2!

  6.     Thank you for evaluating RoboMail, the ultimate QWK-compatible
  7.     message management system for BBS enthusiasts.  Before starting
  8.     your installation, please verify that you have all three files
  9.     required for installation:

  23. UPGRADING FROM VERSION 1.0 OR 1.1
  24. ---------------------------------
  25.  
  26.     If you are currently running version 1.1 and have access to the
  27.     RM11TO12.ZIP upgrade kit, please use it to perform your upgrade.
  28.     See the READ.ME file in that ZIP for details.
  29.  
  30.     If you are currently running version 1.0 and have access to the
  31.     ROBOM12U.ZIP upgrade kit, please use it to perform your upgrade.
  32.     See the READ.ME file in that ZIP for details.

  34.     If you do not have access to the appropriate upgrade kit, you can 
  35.     still perform the upgrade by unzipping the contents of 
  36.     ROBOM12A.ZIP, ROBOM12B.ZIP and ROBOM12C.ZIP into your ROBOMAIL 
  37.     directory.  Overwrite all files EXCEPT ROBOMAIL.RTF when prompted 
  38.     to do so.  ROBOMAIL.RTF contains your taglines.  If you overwrite 
  39.     it with the small tagline file from the distribution kit, your 
  40.     taglines will be lost.
  41.  
  42.     When you start RoboMail 1.2 for the first time, RoboMail may go
  43.     into its "Abnormal Exit" data-recovery procedures.  Simply press
  44.     ESCape and then answer "No" when RoboMail asks if another copy is
  45.     running.  Answer "Yes" to the question which asks for permission to
  46.     re-build the data files.

  112. CHANGES IN THE 1.2 VERSION
  113. --------------------------
  114.  
  115.     RoboMail 1.2 is a maintenance release which provides fixes and 
  116.     improvements to the routines which are used to automatically detect 
  117.     and reconcile changes in the conference assignments on the BBS.  
  118.     Since your RoboMail installation can contain a complete database of 
  119.     all the conferences available on the mail systems you call, changes 
  120.     in the conference structure on the BBS require that your RoboMail 
  121.     message and conference databases also be updated.
  122.  
  123.     Under rare circumstances, the 1.1 version can get confused during 
  124.     the conference reconciliation process and enter an endless loop.  
  125.     For this reason, it is important that you upgrade your installation 
  126.     to the 1.2 version as soon as possible.
  127.  
  128.     Version 1.2 also fixes a problem where taglines could be truncated 
  129.     to 57 characters from RoboMail's default of 60 when re-editing an 
  130.     OutBox message.
  131.  
  132.     Finally, version 1.2 will automatically remove duplicate taglines 
  133.     whenever you use the "Sort" option on the tagline manager screen.  
  134.     The comparisons used during this process are not case sensitive.

  137. CHANGES AND NEW FEATURES IN THE 1.1 VERSION
  138. -------------------------------------------
  139.  
  140.     RoboMail 1.1 contains the following changes and new features from
  141.     the 1.0 release.  Thanks very much to everyone who took the time to
  142.     offer suggestions for enhancements.  Many of your requests and
  143.     suggestions were incorporated into the 1.1 release.  Please keep
  144.     the feedback coming, though, because we're always looking for way
  145.     to improve the program.
  146.  
  147.     --------------------------------------------------------------------

  149.     o   Added routines to automatically detect and handle changes to
  150.         the BBS conference definitions during the QWK import process.
  151.         RoboMail will now properly update your message database no
  152.         matter what your friendly neighborhood Sysop does to the order
  153.         of conferences on the BBS.
  154.  
  155.         NOTE: If your sysop decides to move conferences to new numbers
  156.               and also change the conference name at the same time, then
  157.               RoboMail will be unable to properly reconcile the changes.
  158.  
  159.     o   Changed the F10 key on the message viewing screen to call the
  160.         internal tagline manager (or TAGMAN.BAT if configured).  The
  161.         INS key is still used to access the message index screen.
  162.  
  163.     o   Added the ability to specify the default, conference-specific or
  164.         "other" tagline file when "G"rabbing a tagline.
  165.  
  166.     o   Added support for PCBoard 15 style file attachments and receipt
  167.         requests.  These capabilities were created according to PCBoard
  168.         15 specifications and should become operational when mail doors
  169.         are updated to support these features.

  171.     o   Added support for "@FROM" Internet addressing with PCBoard 15.
  172.  
  173.     o   Added two options to the "Auto-Pilot and Sounds" configuration
  174.         screen:

  176.                 [ ] Automatic page down with auto-pilot
  177.                 [ ] Automatic page down with assisted reading
  178.  
  179.         Use these options if you want the program to automatically do a
  180.         PgDn operation when there is more of a message to read when you
  181.         use the "." (auto-pilot) and ENTER (assisted reading) keys.

  183.         The default for these new options is DISABLED.
  184.  
  185.     o   Added the ability to successfully import messages of ANY
  186.         length.  During import, messages which exceed 32K will be
  187.         automatically split into multiple parts.  When reading
  188.         these long multi-part messages you can press the "V" key to
  189.         re-assemble the entire message into 1 part for viewing.
  190.  
  191.     o   You can now start a reply to the recipient of a message by
  192.         pressing [Alt-T] while the message is displayed on screen.
  193.  
  194.     o   Improved the quick-merge macro capability.  You can now include
  195.         quick-merge macro tokens in the body of the text of your
  196.         outgoing message while you are in your editor (external or
  197.         internal), and RoboMail will merge them with the appropriate
  198.         text as it reads the message data from the disk.

  217.     o   Added the ability to delete an outgoing REPly file by
  218.         highlighting an OutBox cell (with an "R" entry) on the control
  219.         panel and pressing DEL.  If no rep is found, you will be
  220.         prompted to mark all outgoing messages with DISCARD status.
  221.  
  222.     o   Alt-A,O and C are now a more intelligent about finding the
  223.         message you really want to see when you try to look up a
  224.         thread reference in another message class.
  225.  
  226.     o   Added a "Q"uery key to the tagline manager. Uses the same
  227.         search methods as in the other queries in the program.  This
  228.         will allow you to quickly find taglines relating to specific
  229.         topics.
  230.  
  231.     o   Added "message stitching" compatible with the method used by
  232.         Sparkware's 1st Reader.  Any multi-part messages with [ANSI...]
  233.         in the 1st line will be stitched automatically and displayed.
  234.         Other multi-part messages can be stitched together and
  235.         displayed with the "V" key when reading messages.   During REP
  236.         export, any messages which are split will get the necessary
  237.         formatting to enable re-assembly by others sing compatible
  238.         software.
  239.  
  240.         NOTE: RoboMail will split messages longer than 32K using this
  241.               method during import.  So, if you're using RM to read
  242.               Internet mail and encounter a jumbo message, just press
  243.               "V" when the first part of the message is displayed, and
  244.               RoboMail will assemble the complete message and display
  245.               it using your defined message viewing utility. After
  246.               viewing a stitched message, the complete message is still
  247.               on your disk in a MESSAGE.TXT file.
  248.  
  249.         NOTE: The characters used to enable stitching in 1st Reader do
  250.               not travel through all mail doors and networks properly.
  251.               If you encounter a message that looks like it should
  252.               stitch but does not function properly, the message may
  253.               have traveled through a FIDO, Internet or Wildcat mail
  254.               system.  Alternative stitching techniques are currently
  255.               being developed.
  256.  
  257.     o   Removed the vertical scroll bar from the message viewing
  258.         screen.  This will provide an unobstructed view of 79 column
  259.         messages.  To scroll up and down using the mouse, click on the
  260.         lines above and below the message text window.
  261.  
  262.         NOTE: You can also use the "V" key to view a message which is
  263.               too wide to fit on your screen.  The internal viewer will
  264.               display lines up to 512 characters long.  Use RIGHT and
  265.               LEFT arrows to pan.
  266.  
  267.     o   RoboMail will now automatically add a space to the end of your
  268.         defined quote characters if they are three characters long.
  269.         this should enhance the readability of FL> type quotes.
  270.  
  271.     o   Added a key to perform a solid disk write of all buffered data
  272.         to the message viewing screen.  Press [Shift-F10] to do this.
  273.         People doing risky things in other sessions of multi-tasking
  274.         environments can use this key before performing the operation.
  275.         This may help in data recovery in the event of a system crash.

  278. MEA CULPA! -- RoboMail 1.1 Fixes
  279. --------------------------------
  280.  
  281.     All in all, it was a pretty clean 1.0 release.  However, a few
  282.     things did slip through our internal and beta testing.  The
  283.     following anomalies from version 1.0 have been fixed for the 1.1
  284.     release:
  285.  
  286.     --------------------------------------------------------------------

  288.     o   Upgraded virtual memory management system is much more tolerant
  289.         of other software.  You should not see "VM Integrity Error"
  290.         messages any more.
  291.  
  292.     o   Sped up the responsiveness of the internal editor.  It should
  293.         now keep up with even the speediest touch typists.
  294.  
  295.     o   Changed the routines that do the "RE:" stripping from subject
  296.         lines so that the subject is padded back to 25 character width
  297.         using ASCII 255.  This should fix the situation where replies
  298.         with "RE:" prefixes that had been stripped were appearing
  299.         before the original message.
  300.  
  301.     o   Fixed invalid "Unable to open standard dictionary" error
  302.         message that was preventing people from importing words into
  303.         their standard dictionaries.
  304.  
  305.     o   Modified text output routines to sort messages by
  306.         BBS+CONFERENCE+SUBJECT+NUMBER before writing them to a text
  307.         file.
  308.  
  309.     o   Fixed bug with bulk marking a thread when the thread contained
  310.         some subjects with mixed or all lower case letters.
  311.  
  312.     o   The main tagline configuration field would allow you to leave
  313.         it blank resulting in "DOS Error 2" aborts.  Input is now
  314.         required.
  315.  
  316.     o   Hitting "O" in the chron to copy a message to the OutBox was
  317.         duplicating the tagline.  Fixed.
  318.  
  319.     o   RoboMail was not checking defined conference-specific alias
  320.         names when determining if a message was "personal."  Fixed.
  321.  
  322.     o   Fixed problem that would cause the exit query for exporting to
  323.         be skipped if all outbox messages were discarded or on hold and
  324.         the only other outbox items were offline configuration requests.
  325.  
  326.     o   During export, messages were getting the system date and time
  327.         rather than the date and time they were saved.  Fixed.
  328.  
  329.     o   When re-editing an outbox message with the internal editor,
  330.         RoboMail would preface each line in the "original" message
  331.         with the defined quoting characters.  Fixed.
  332.  
  333.     o   Fixed problems when ESCaping from the pop-up assistant menu
  334.         with a special sort or query active.
  335.  
  336.     o   Fixed incorrect quote characters when using AlT-Q in the
  337.         internal editor.
  338.  
  339.     o   Fixed problems when specifying a BBS ID in conjunction with
  340.         the /e command line parameter.
  341.  
  342.     o   Fixed "DOS Error 31" problems.
  343.  
  344.     o   Fixed problems that could occur when attempting to add a name
  345.         to the address book before any mail systems had been defined.
  346.  
  347.     o   Fixed bug which could result in messages getting saved to the
  348.         wrong folder if you pressed ENTER while the folder list was
  349.         still getting filled in.
  350.  
  351.     o   Fixed bug which could result in a crash when saving a message
  352.         from the external editor if spell checking was enabled and the
  353.         standard dictionary file could not be opened (handles or not
  354.         found).
  355.  
  356.     o   The C,M,L,V and E options on the attachment manager were
  357.         operational even if no files were listed.  Fixed.
  358.  
  359.     o   Tags were not being cleared when processing messages marked for
  360.         discarding.  Also, tags were being passed along to folder
  361.         messages when sending messages to folders.  Fixed.
  362.  
  363.     o   Fixed problem which would assign discard status to outbox
  364.         messages when you pressed the [+] or [-] key while in the
  365.         outbox and the conference was set to default to Discard status.
  366.         This was the elusive cause of phantom outbox messages.
  367.  
  368.     o   Fixed problems which could cause an error when attempting to
  369.         edit or use an address book entry containing a BBS that has been
  370.         deleted from the system.
  371.  
  372.     o   Fixed problem with selecting taglines with the mouse.
  373.  
  374.     o   Fixed "Sort On" pop-up menu so that mouse clicks would work.
  375.  
  376.     o   Added better error trapping for disk full conditions when
  377.         accessing DBV files.  When this happens, RoboMail will
  378.         display a informational screen and attempt an orderly shutdown.

  380.     o   Clicking on the "Age", "Keep" or "Discard" options in the message
  381.         header will now move you on to the next message after making the
  382.         assignment.
