  1. NU 7.0 Update for MS-DOS 6.2
  2.  
  3. This update for Norton Utilities version 7.0 provides support for
  4. the newly released MS-DOS Version 6.2.  MS-DOS 6.2 extends the
  5. interactive boot feature to include the ability to single-step
  6. through your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, and adds an Automount capability 
  7. for DoubleSpace removable media (such as diskettes), along with
  8. several other features.
  9.  
  10. The following Norton Utilities programs are affected by the new
  11. MS-DOS 6.2:
  12.  
  13. NDOS            - Adds support for the /Y switch for interactive
  14.                   boot.                      
  15. NDD, SFORMAT,
  16. and RESCUE      - Modified for support of DoubleSpace Automount
  17.                   drives.  This update also supports the Auto-
  18.                   mount feature of SuperStor/DS for IBM DOS 6.1.
  19.  
  20. NOTE:  An additional update to Norton Cache, which is necessary
  21. when MS-DOS 6.2 DoubleSpace Automount is enabled, will be provided
  22. as a separate patch available before the end of November 1993.
  23. In the meantime, if you are using Norton Cache, you should 
  24. disable the Automount feature using the DBLSPACE utility.

  26. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
  27. -------------------------
  28. To update the current version of NU 7.0, copy the three files,
  29. DOS62UP.BAT, DOS62UPP.EXE and DOS62UP.RTP, to the directory 
  30. containing the original copy of Norton Utilities Version 7.0.
  31. Change into the directory where you just copied these files and
  32. then type:
  33.  
  34.         DOS62UP <ENTER>
  35.  
  36. A new BACKUP sub-directory will be created containing your original
  37. programs, in case you need to return to the original versions. 
  38.  
  39. IMPORTANT!  If you reinstall NU7, you must reinstall this update.
  40. Before reinstalling this update by running DOS62UP, you must delete
  41. the files in the BACKUP directory. DOS62UP.BAT will do this for you.

  43. UPDATE NOTES
  44. ------------
  45. NDOS now supports a new switch (/Y) which causes it to prompt
  46. "(Y/N)? " prior to execution of each line in any startup batch file
  47. (including NSTART.BTM and AUTOEXEC.BAT and any batch file called by
  48. them).  This switch is passed automatically by DOS 6.2 when you
  49. press the <F8> key while DOS is loading (interactive boot).
  50.  
  51. SFORMAT and RESCUE include support for mounted DoubleSpace
  52. compressed diskettes.  When you enter these utilities, they will
  53. determine the type of diskette in the drive, and if compressed
  54. they will indicate this in the Size field.  Because you cannot
  55. directly format the compressed diskette, SFORMAT also lists 
  56. the host drive letter which you can format.  If you format the
  57. host drive, the diskette will no longer be compressed.  (You
  58. should use the utility provided by your compression software
  59. to reformat a compressed diskette that you want to remain
  60. compressed.)  RESCUE will allow you to copy rescue files to a
  61. compressed diskette without reformatting it, or you can select the
  62. host drive letter to format and create a non-compressed rescue
  63. diskette.

  65. NOTE:  If you swap the type of diskette (compressed vs. non-
  66. compressed) in the drive while running SFORMAT or RESCUE, you must
  67. exit and restart the utility to refresh the drive information.
  68.  
  69. After installing this update, the SFORMAT.EXE, and RESCUE.EXE 
  70. files will be about 90-95K larger than the originals. In order
  71. to provide this update electronically, these files had to be
  72. made independent of the NLIB100.RTL file. This greatly increased
  73. their size. Because passwords are stored in the NLIB100.RTL file,
  74. SFORMAT can no longer be password protected.
