Roadways PC README.DOC file:
============================
This is a maintenance release of Roadways PC, released on July
3rd, 1993. All of the files should have the following date and
time stamps on them, with the possible exception of the
ROADWAYS.DAT, ROADWAYS.TIM, ROADWAYS.CTY and the ROADWAYS.STA
files, which are all text files that can be user modified:
07/03/93 8:00 a.m.
Changes:
========
Here are the changes to 3.2 over 3.1g and 3.1f:
1. Made Roadways PC 'smart' about what you call it. This is
only important if you have registered Roadways PC, as the
registration code is stored in the ROADWAYS.EXE file. As long as
Roadways PC was named ROADWAYS.EXE there was no problem, but if
you re-named ROADWAYS.EXE to any other file name (i.e. -
ROAD.EXE), it couldn't find the registration code, since it was
looking for the file ROADWAYS.EXE. Now, once you register
Roadways PC and enter the correct registration code, you can
rename Roadways PC to anything you wish and it can still tell
what it's name is!
2. After much deliberation, and tests of different methods, I
have finally decided to follow the pack. It has become almost a
stan- dard to put the 'Quit' or 'Exit' option in the menu choice
called 'File'. I had chosen not to. Well, I've finally given in
and am now right in there with the big-boys. 'Quit' is now in
the 'File' menu heading. Keep this in mind, as the documentation
is different, indicating on page 9 that 'Quit' is it's own
selection on the menu bar.
Here are the changes to 3.1f over 3.1e:
1 - If a city name was over 17 characters long, it would generate
an error and end the program - it now no longer does this.
Cities with names over 17 characters long are truncated to 17
characters.
2 - Changed Rural Routes to County Roads in the docs and in
Roadways. County Roads are abbreviated CO-## where ## is the
number of the county road.
Here are the changes to 3.1e over 3.1c:
1 - When in the route screen, if the ALT key was pressed, the
menu from the main screen would attempt to open. This is
corrected.
2 - Corrected sorting so sort by State now also sorts by city
within state.
3 - Changed the exit prompt to an exit window and standardized
it.
4 - Made some minor text changes in the copyright screen.
5 - Added checking for display type on startup and automatic
correction if the display type selected is wrong.
Changes in release 3.1c over 3.1b:
1 - I found that if a city was shown as deleted in the datafile
(in other words, if you had zero connections to that city)
Roadways would not run - it constantly said that there was an
error in the sorted datafiles. This now works.
2 - Some folks have complained that it is too hard to quit
Roadways, and that when they select the Quit option from the
menu, and then have to select Quit Roadways PC, that they
shouldn't have to be asked AGAIN if they want to quit. When you
select the option QUIT from the Roadways PC menu bar, after
clicking on Quit Roadways PC, you will immediately exit Roadways.
Support BBS:
==================
SPECIAL NOTICE! The support BBS for Roadways PC has changed!
The new BBS is the Free World BBS system. This is an outstanding
free BBS system that you really should try to get on if you get
the chance. Not only will the latest version of Roadways PC be
loaded there, this is the best place to get technical support and
find the latest in utilities and datafiles for Roadways. Many
thanks go to the sysop of this terrific system for his support of
shareware. Here are the phone numbers:
14.4 and 9600 baud (618)746-9176
300 to 2400 baud (618)746-9043
Note that if you are already on a BBS system that has a link into
