Topics:
Getting Started

Problem Solving
Getting Started:
FireFighter was written with the user always in mind.
This means that menus and data entering has been made as easy
as possible.
There are a few rules that must be followed in order for the
program to work as intended.
By using the icon ribbon you will save key strokes.
Icon(Man) -- view roster records
Icon(telephone) -- use dialer
Icon(Training Tapes)-- view training records.
Icon(calculator) -- view individual training records.
Icon(graph) -- view statistical training report.
Icon(burning house)-- view incident records.
Icon(calculator) -- view individual training records.
Icon(Broken graph) -- view statistical training report.
Icon(screw driver) -- view maintenance records.
Icon(Air bottle) -- view air bottle records.
Icon(Hose) -- view hose records.
Icon(ladder) -- view ladder records.
Entering Data:
Dates must always be entered using the format: MM-DD-YYYY
eg; 01-22-1993.
When entering Roster names and there are two or more members with
the SAME FIRST and LAST names, you must make one or more of the
names unique.
eg; (John Smith) if more than one member has this name you could
differentiate between the names using J. Smith John L. Smith etc.
When entering the rank in the "Roster File", you must use these
naming conventions;
Fire Chief or Chief
Asst. Fire Chief or Assistant Fire Chief
Deputy Chief
Captain or Cpt.
Lieut. or Lieutenant
FireFighter or Fire Fighter
EMS 1
EMS 2
EMS 3
EMS P
Rookie
Probation
Volunteer
The "Roster" will recognize "EMS P" (probation trainie), "EMS 1"
(EMT level 1), "EMS 2" (EMT level 2) and "EMS 3" (EMT level 3).
These must be entered in your roster records as EMS P, EMS 1,
EMS 2, or EMS 3.
You may enter anything AFTER the rank as long as the letter
total (including spaces) is 25 or less.
Eg; Captain-Training officer.
The roster list will be in Alphabetical order until you print
the roster, in which case the printed list will be in RANK order.
If your department members are paid by the
Incident (rather than by the hour) then start FireFighter
using FFwin /C.
To do this, open the windows program manager, select "File" and
then select the "Properties" menu selection.
Change the default FFwin.exe to FFwin /C
If your department members are not receiving any type of
Honararium or payment for training or incidents, then
enter $0.00 in the training and incident payment boxes.
Using the Mouse:
Using the mouse will make FireFighter easer to use.. If you
do not like using the mouse, all menus will work using the
Tab key and <Enter> key where applicable.
If you are using the mouse all windows conventions are
used eg; double clicking etc.
Problem Solving;
Although FireFighter for windows is very straight forward
there are a number of things you should check if you are
having problems.
If you are having problems with training/Incident or Roster
files, you should check these:
Dates must be entered in the form MM-DD-YYYY
Rank must be entered in the correct form (see above).
Roster First/Last name not unique.
Incident hours not entered correctly.
For full documentation please read all the "*.Doc" and *.TXT"
files.
REMEMBER to backup your data files often!
