FROM THE EDITOR
Welcome to the second edition of NewtonS' Lutions. This issue is dedicated
to add-ons, accessories and product announcements. Since many of these
items are still smoke and mirrors (vapor ware), this listing should serve
as a resource for ideas as to what can be done with Newt'. As one of the
largest Apple dealers in the country, we're very excited about this little
"figgey" and will do everything we can to stay on top of available
products.
If your company has a product (or a dream for one), let us know. I'll try
to keep this catalog up to date, which may be impossible as this market
explodes.
I have divided this newsletter into three sections. The first contains
excerpts from various press releases, the second gives additional
information on the Newton, and the second is laid out as a catalog.
Newtons' Lutions was designed using Syntax by Dialectic Systems. We
certainly appreciated their participation in making this exciting new
presentation media available. This excellent product is distributed as
shareware. For more information on Syntax, Choose File - Open -
SynHelp.Syn.
Newton and the light bulb logo are trademarks of Apple Compu-
ters. We are in no way affiliated with or endorsed by Apple
Computers. All information contained in this newsletter is
believed to be correct and accurate, but we accept no respon-
sibility for it.
We appreciate your input. Email JohnR238@AOL.COM with your questions and
comments.
An extended version of the catalog is available in print which includes
descriptions of each of the accessories. Contact us below for a free copy.

plans to incorporate Newton technologies into their information systems
strategies.

Newton devices. "We are very excited about mobile computing and its
potential applications for our customers--business travelers in
particular," said John I Williams Jr., senior vice president.

care operations. Final contract negotiations are underway for a project

Apple believes that there are three primary markets for Newton Technology.
(1) The traditional retail customers who will benefit from the built-in
communication and organization capabilities, add-on software titles, and
future product designs. (2) corporate customers who will utilize custom
developed applications and specialized features created by third party
developers. (3) Manufacturers who have licenses the technology and will
develop other products built on the foundation.
The Newton Toolkit - which is due for fall shipment - will provide
graphical layout capabilities, and will utilize both the NewtonScript
programming language and built-in Newton components. It will support
content, applications development, and authoring tools.

AN IN DEPTH LOOK AT THE NEWTON MESSAGING CARD
From technical specs provided by Apple on AppleLink
The Newton Messaging Card allows Newton to work like a pager. It connects
to existing wide-area paging system, allowing numeric and text messages to
be received. With the Messaging Card, Newton can receive information such
as meeting confirmations, news and other services.
The Messaging Card is a PCMCIA type II card, like the Newton's RAM storage
cards.
The Messaging Card fits over the top of Newton, and slides into the PCMCIA
slot. It has 128 kb of static RAM storage space.
The card is a single-frequency receiver in the 929-932 MHZ frequency band
and features a built-in antenna. It is compatible with all POCSAG
protocols including both 7 bit and 8 bit messaging formats and will be
available with 512, 1200, or 2400 baud code speeds.
The AAA battery will supply power for more than 21 days. It protects data
when the main battery is low or being replaced.
The card has an On/Off switch, a transducer, and a multicolor status
indicator. A flashing green LED indicates unread messages, and a flashing
red LED indicates a low battery. An audible alert indicates that radio-
frequency (RF) information has been received. It will also alert you when
you are out of paging range.
The card can detect as many as four POCSAG addresses. Each address is
capable of responding to four functions, and each function has a total of
32 subaddresses. There are 16 combinations of addresses and functions,
each referred to as a source. The card will respond to a total of 512
individual subaddresses.
The information supplied after the address can be either tone-only, 4 bit
numeric, or 7 bit or 8 bit data. The card will also support OTA
programming so the paging service provider can enable and disable the
card's functions.
You can program different Messaging Cards with the same address and
functions and thereby accomplish group call and subgroup call to send
identical messages to each Newton. (Way COOL!)
There is no imposed restriction on the length or number of messages. The
limit is defined by the available RAM.
