Legend 24LX
Graphics Board
by Tony Curro
Several months ago I reviewed products from Sigma Design. Now they
are back with two VL-Bus cards: Legend 24LX and Legend 24 VL/IDE. I
looked at the 24LX VL-Bus version.
The card comes with 1 MB of DRAM, that is not upgradeable. It
includes drivers for Windows and many popular DOS applications. The
Legend 24 VL/IDE is the first VL-Bus controller to combine graphics,
a 32-bit Local Bus IDE hard disk interface, floppy controller, two
serial ports, and one parallel port -- all on a single board.
Both cards support up to 24-Bit color, hardware GUI acceleration
using the Cirrus Logic GD-5426 GUI processor, and ultra-ergonomic
vertical refresh for flicker-free viewing. There is also a
Multi-Mode Control Panel. This allows instantaneous resolution
switching without the need to restart Windows. It is also VESA BIOS
compatible.
Resolution Colors
640x480 up to 16.7 Million
800x600 up to 64K
1024x768 up to 256
1280x1024 up to 16
Vertical Refresh Rates:
up to 120 Hz at 640x480
up to 100 Hz at 800x600
up to 72 Hz at 1024x768
up to 87 Hz at 1280x1024
I ran ZD Labs WinBench v3.11 on this card. It received WinMarks of
15 Million. I tested several other cards also. All the others had 2
MB RAM. Of these, one tested at 14 Million, and the other at 16
Million. Two other cards were faster than these three combined.
However, all four of those cards carry hefty price tags. With only 1
MB, and a VERY attractive price, Legend 24LX is an excellent choice.
