Author's notes on Winds Of War
------------------------------
I got tired of those puny little films that didn't
have much of a plot, no real action, and hardly
any sound. So I decided to put together a story
that had some meat on its bones for a change. The
results are the four "reels" of my epic 37 minute
(total running time) "Winds Of War".
I'll admit that the pacing in "reel" number one is
a bit slow and I improved in the later "reels" as
the story developed. So I hope you bear with me on
this one. The later "reels" involve shorter clips
and lots of sound effects to create the illusion
of a larger battle than is seen on the screen.
Believe it or not, most of the action scenes are
all controlled by the events program created for
each scene. For the most part camera #1 was not
used, or it was set on a fixed course and speed,
or disguised as some other stationary prop. Only
one scene has a prop actually controlled by my
hand, that is the second tank in the scene where
two tanks pass through a destroyed town. The only
time I touched the controls in the scene was to
maneuver the tank around the overturned truck.
The first tank was completely controlled by the
events program.
The most difficult scene I programmed in the entire
story was the airfield scene at the end of the
first "reel". The fuel truck was prop number one
and sent down the taxi way at a fixed speed with
a second camera attached and extended out over the
runway. All the other props were completely
controlled by the events program. It took me nearly
a week of 5 hour sessions to program everything so
it worked together fluidly. All camera prop
positions were used and various "cuts" from these
different angles were used throughout the sequence.
This story requires that you download the four
ALL files, since the film uses custom sounds
throughout. It may not run or it may abort in the
middle if you do not have the four "ALL" files.
The zipfile filenames for the film are:
WOW#1FLM.ZIP (or .ARJ)
WOW#2FLM.ZIP (or .ARJ)
WOW#3FLM.ZIP (or .ARJ)
WOW#4FLM.ZIP (or .ARJ)
The zipfile filenames for the "ALL" files are:
WOW#1ALL.ZIP (or .ARJ)
WOW#2ALL.ZIP (or .ARJ)
WOW#3ALL.ZIP (or .ARJ)
WOW#4ALL.ZIP (or .ARJ)
The names of the film files are:
WOW#1.FLM
WOW#2.FLM
WOW#3.FLM
WOW#4.FLM
The names of the "ALL" files are:
WOW#1.ALL
WOW#2.ALL
WOW#3.ALL
WOW#4.ALL
If you wish to obtain all the SET, TKE, and FLM (clips)
for this program, you may do so by downloading them
from my personal part time BBS. This BBS is currently
called THE PRODIGY ZONE (but may soon change). The only
restriction I have is that my board only runs on the
weekends from 5pm Friday Central Time to 6pm Sunday
Central Time. Please, do not call at any other time!
The number to my weekend board is: 219-762-0826
2400 to 14.4K ANSI, 8N1 supported. You will find the
files in the Stunt Island file area.
I may also be contacted on National Videotex Network (NVN)
at KHeitmann. My Prodigy account (GVXV90A) is expiring
after 4 years as of this writing and I can no longer be
reached via Prodigy.
I hope you enjoy "Winds Of War". Maybe this will inspire
someone else to create more epics.
