  7. FE-IBM will allow any CP/M machine with 
  8. a Z80 CPU running CP/M 2.0 or higher to 
  9. be able to read and write any of the 
  10. following MSDOS disk types with the 
  11. appropriate drive hardware:
  12.  
  13. DRIVE  SIZE TRACKS SIDES SEC/TRK SECTOR
  14.  5.25  160k   40     1      8     512
  15.  5.25  320k   40     2      8     512
  16.  5.25  180k   40     1      9     512
  17.  5.25  360k   40     2      9     512
  18.  5.25  200k   40     1     10     512
  19.  5.25  400k   40     2     10     512
  20.  3.5   720k   80     2      9     512
  21.  
  22. Special Note for C128 CP/M Systems:
  23. If you plan to use the 1581 3.5" drive 
  24. you must run the utility FIX1581.COM 
  25. prior to using this drive since there 
  26. is an error in the drive ROM. If you 
  27. forget the drive will hang the system.

  29. FE-IBM will transfer any type of CP/M or 
  30. MSDOS file with NO limitation on the 
  31. file size other than the space available 
  32. on the destination media.  (Shareware 
  33. Demo limited to 2K file lengths.)

  35. HOW TO INSTALL YOUR PROGRAM:
  36.  
  37. To use FE-IBM you must first install it 
  38. for the type of system you are using by 
  39. running the program FEINSTAL.
  40.  
  41. You must indicate whether your system is 
  42. a C128 CP/M system since there are some 
  43. differences in the C128 system.
  44.  
  45. Your system must be able to read at 
  46. least some of the following general 
  47. types of DOUBLE DENSITY disks:
  48.  
  49. DRIVE  TRACKS SEC/TRK SECTOR
  50.  5.25    40      8     512
  51.  5.25    40      9     512
  52.  5.25    40     10     512
  53.  3.5     80      9     512
  54.  
  55. Any type which cannot be recognized 
  56. should be installed as UNDEFINED.
  57.  
  58. If your system has double-sided drives 
  59. you will need to install the proper 
  60. decoding method for each disk type that 
  61. your system recognizes.  CP/M 3 users 
  62. should always install the method as FULL 
  63. CYLINDER (Side 2 Hi Sector Bit).  CP/M 2 
  64. users should install the appropriate 
  65. decoding method from the following 
  66. available choices:
  67.  
  68. 0.) UNDEFINED
  69. 1.) FULL CYLINDER (Continuous Sector #):
  70.      This method is used for all single-
  71. sided disks and by CP/M 2 systems where 
  72. the logical tracks encompass sectors on 
  73. both sides of the disk.
  74. 2.) FULL CYLINDER (Side 2 Hi Sect Bit):
  75.      This method is used by all CP/M 3 
  76. systems and by CP/M 2 systems where the 
  77. logical tracks encompass sectors on both 
  78. sides with the sectors on side 2 being 
  79. accessed by setting bit 7 of the sector 
  80. number.
  81. 3.) HALF CYLINDER (Same Sector Numbers):
  82.      This method is used by all CP/M 2 
  83. systems where the logical tracks start 
  84. on side 1 then side 2 is the next track 
  85. with the even track numbers being on 
  86. side 1 and odd track numbers on side 2.
  87. 4.) EXTENDED SURFACE:
  88.      This method is used by CP/M 2 
  89. systems where the logical tracks run on 
  90. side 1 (phys 0-maxtrk) then on side 2 
  91. (phys maxtrk-0).
  92. 5.) DOUBLE SURFACE:
  93.      This method is used by CP/M 2 
  94. systems where the logical tracks run on 
  95. side 1 (phys 0-maxtrk) then on side 2 
  96. (phys 0-maxtrk).

  98. You will also need to indicate whether 
  99. you system BIOS works internally with a 
  100. 0 origin sector number or a 1 origin 
  101. sector number.

  103. FEINSTAL will now install the proper 
  104. parameters in your FE-IBM file.
  105.  
  106. Now you may boot up FE-IBM and read and 
  107. write MS-DOS disks on your CP/M system.  
  108. To access the demo mode just answer 
  109. 'demo' to the authenticate prompt.
