- editor for the Commodore 128 / 128D series of computers running under
- CP/M 3.0 (CP/M Plus). The main features are:

-
- * Edit a full 512 character set.
-

-
- OVERVIEW OF PROGRAMS:
-
- CHED80.COM Boot module. Loads title screen character definition file
- CHED80.CDF, displays title screen, and waits for user to press
- [RETURN]. After [RETURN] has been pressed the default CDF
- DEFAULT.CDF is loaded before the CHED80I.COM module is loaded.
-
- CHED80I.COM Editor screen initialization module. Draws the menu selector and
- character set windows then loads the CHED80M.COM module.
-
- CHED80M.COM Editor main module. Display character sets, edit character sets,
- loads CDF's, save CDF's and access the on-line help module.
-
- CHED80H.COM On-line help module. Allows user to view help file CHED80.HLP.
- Pressing the [ESC]ape key reloads the screen initialization module
- which in turn loads the editor main module.

-
- RUNNING CHED 80:
-
- Log into the drive containing the CHED 80 release disk via A: [RETURN] or B:,
- C:, etc. Once logged into the CHED 80 release disk you can run CHED 80 three
- different ways:
-
- 1. CHED80.COM loads the title screen CDF CHED80.CDF, displays the title
- screen, waits for the user to press [RETURN], loads the default CDF
- DEFAULT.CDF and exits by running CHED80I.
-
- 2. CHED80I.COM displays the character set window, menu selector, program
- name and exits by running CHED80M.COM. This method takes only 10 seconds
- to run the editor on a 1581 drive. This is also a way to save the
- character set in the 8563 VDC (80 column video display chip) without over
- writing it like CHED80.COM.
-
- 3. CHED80H.COM loads the online help file CHED80.HLP and allows the user to
- view help until the [ESC]ape key is pressed. After the [ESC]ape key is
- pressed the program exits by running CHED80I.COM. The user may want to
- use this method the first couple of times until comfortable with CHED80.
- USING MAIN MENU SELECTOR:
-
- The Main Menu displays the following selections:
-
- Edit Char
- Save Set
- Load Set
- Quit
- Help
-
- To select a particular function use the top cursor keys or their equivilent as
- set up in KEYFIG.COM. As you move the selector bar you will notice that a
- breif description of the function is displayed on the top line of the screen.
- Once the selector bar is placed over the desired function the user presses
- [RETURN] to activate that function. Each sub function displays breif
- instructions for the user.
-
-
-
-
- EDITING CHARACTERS:
-
- To edit a character select the Edit Char function at the Main Menu. This
- places the cursor on the last character edited in the character grid and
- displays the character magnified 8 times to the left of the grid. Use the top
- cursor keys to move about the grid and [RETURN] to select a character. As you
- move you will notice the character set and number located on top center of
- the character grid change when the cursor moves. Use this number to determine
- which character you are editing. After [RETURN] is pressed the cursor is placed
- in the upper left corner of the magnified character. Use the top cursor keys to
- move, [INST]/[DEL] key to clear entire character, [SPACE] to toggle individual
- bits and [RETURN] to exit Edit Char mode.
-
- Character 0 of the alternate character set is reserved as CHED80's background
- character. The user can change this character to test custom background
- characters.
-
-
-
-
- SAVING AND LOADING CHARACTER DEFINITION FILES (CDFs):
-
- To save or load a CDF select the save or load function at the Main Menu. You
- will be prompted for a file name. The file name must comform to CP/M standards
- such as TEST.CDF, TEST_1.CDF, TEST01.CDF, etc. The CDF file name extension is
- optional. After the file name is entered the CDF is saved to or loaded from
