  1. MAILMERGE FIX

  4. (A fix for a DOT command bug)
  5.  
  6. WORDSTAR/MAILMERGE:  If the topmost dot command in a document
  7. that you are mailmerging is printed on the second and subsequent
  8. iterations, and it appears that the dot command is not
  9. functioning, try the following:
  10.  
  11. Call up the document (the basic document, not the mailmerge file)
  12. and go to the bottom of the file (CTL-Q, C).  Making sure there
  13. is a hard carriage return at the end of the last line indicated
  14. by a ">" character at right edge of screen, there probably will
  15. be a period following (below) that ">".  This period combined
  16. with the period of the first dot command are combining to form a
  17. comment -- a bug in some versions of Wordstar.

  19. To beat the bug, put your cursor on the left margin of the last
  20. (empty) line of the document, erase to the end of the line (CTL-
  21. Q, Y) to make sure that there are no unprintable characters on
  22. the line (e.g., spaces) and enter a period on the left margin. 
  23. This period and the period on the right edge of the screen will
  24. combine into a blank dot command comment allowing the dot command
  25. on the top of the document to function as it should as a dot
  26. command.
