- Definition of SHAREWARE
-
-
- Shareware distribution gives the users a chance to try software
- before buying it. If you try a shareware program and continue
- using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
- differ on details - - some request registration while others
- require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
- registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
- using the software to an updated program with printed manual.
-
- Copyright laws apply to shareware and commercial software, and
- the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
- exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
- programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
- of comparable quality. ( In both cases, there are good programs
- and bad ones !) The main difference is the method of
- distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
- and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
- specific group. For example, some authors require written
- permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
- shareware.
-
- Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
- should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
- whether it's commercial or shareware. The shareware system makes
- fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
- And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
- has the ultimate money-back guarantee - - if you don't use the
- product, you don't pay for it.

- DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT
-
- Users of C A N S Sports Journal (CSJ) must accept this disclaimer
- of warranty : CSJ is supplied as is. The author disclaims all
- warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation,
- the warranties of merchantability and fitness for any purpose.
- The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or
- consequential, which may result from the use of CSJ.
-
- CSJ is a 'shareware program' and is provided at no charge to the
- user. Feel free to share it with your friends, but please do not
- give it away altered or as a part of another system. The essence
- of 'user supported' software is to provide personal computer
- users with quality software without high prices, yet to provide
- incentive for programmers to continue to develop new products. If
- you find this program useful and continue to use CSJ after a
- reasonable trial period, you must register your use with Jim
- Faughnan.
-
- You are encouraged to pass a copy of CSJ along to your friends
- for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy if
- they find they can use it.
-
-
-

-
- C A N S Sports Journal is a rather simple database operation
- containing the complete schedules of the sports found on the main
- menu. CSJ does not offer, in itself, a means of viewing these
- schedules. CSJ will, however, transfer to C A N S the schedule(s)
- of the team(s) the user desires.
-
- CSJ will be 'published' periodically during each year providing
- the then current schedule(s) available at that time. Subsequent
- editions of CSJ during any given year will update the previous
- database for that year with newly released schedules.
-
- CSJ's latest edition date may be obtained from it's name. For
- example, the first edition will be distributed under the file
- name 'CSJ41' for 1994, with the final edition bearing the file
- name 'CSJ4F'. You should copy the most current edition into your
- sub-directory containing C A N S without regard to any existing
- files from previous editions of CSJ - - the most current edition
- will be cumulative (the latest edition will contain ALL the
- schedules previously 'published' for that year in addition to the
- newly released schedules). As new sports schedules are included
- in CSJ, the transfer program will be altered to accommodate these
- schedules. The program will remain compatible with previously
- 'published' schedules for that year.
-
-
- Future editions of CSJ will be available through the same source
- you have acquired this edition. You may also find CSJ on
- CompuServe - GO IBMAPP, LIBrary 7. If this is inconvenient for
- you or you do not have ready access to a bulletin board or
- CompuServe, I will provide to registered users of C A N S future
- editions of CSJ for an annual 'subscription' of $15. This is
- intended to cover out of pocket expenses. CSJ is otherwise being
- distributed free of any registration FEE.
-
- This fee will cover the costs of ALL editions for any given
- calendar year. You will be entitled to receive all editions for
- one annual payment. In order that this be kept as simple as
- possible, there will be NO PRORATIONS.
-
- 'Publication' dates are anticipated to be :
- Feb 15 to Mar 1,
- Aug 1 to Aug 15,
- Nov 1 to Nov 15,
- each year.
-
-
-
-
- CSJ is a menu driven program. The escape (ESC) key will allow the
- user to 'back track' to, eventually, the main menu.
-
- Options on each menu are either numbered or are a letter which
- the user may enter to indicate a choice.
-
- Schedules may be transferred for an individual team or an entire
- conference or division by choosing a menu option. To transfer an
- entire sport (i.e., the entire Major League Baseball season), you
- will have to transfer each division separately.
-
- The user can make choices or selections on successive
- menus/screens until the program displays a dialog box with 3
- options :
-
- Add - Transfers the indicated choice.
-
- Delete - Deletes the indicated choice.
-
- Cancel - Returns the user to the previous screen or main
- menu.
-
-
- You should be aware of the size of your Calendar.MDB file as
- you add schedules. This file will expand !
-
- You will, also, want to be aware of the size of the schedule
- files used by CSJ. As more sports and schedules are included, the
- number and sizes of these files will become quite large.
- Accordingly, I have included a batch file - - Clean.BAT - - which
- you may wish to use to erase CSJ files from your hard disk after
- you have transferred the desired schedules. If you wish to add
- additional schedules (or delete schedules) at a later date, you
- can simply copy CSJ back to your hard disk from a diskette.
