At Antioch College, a small liberal arts college with an enrollment of 650 in Yellow Springs, Ohio, a new sexual offense policy came into the media spotlight in the fall of 1993.
The policy was adopted after several sexual assaults on campus. A group of women students, calling themselves the "Women of Antioch" took offense at the lack of a campus policy concerning date rape and threatened "radical, physical action" unless something was done.
The new policy is intended to make sure any sexual contact is consensual. Verbal consent is required before any action is taken, even before kissing.
