On July 30, Apple Computer unveiled the Newton, a hand-held "personal digital assistant" which it hopes will revolutionize the way personal computers are used.
Users write on the Newton screen with a pen. The Newton software is then able to translate handwriting into computer characters.
The Newton combines the functions of a personal computer with communications technology that will allow it to transmit and receive facsimilies and data.
