The father of the U.S. teen caned Thursday in Singapore says his fight "to take these guys down" is far from over.
Prison doctors say Michael Fay, 18, of Kettering, Ohio, was in satisfactory condition after receiving four lashes on his buttocks with a 4-foot long, 1/2-inch-thick split bamboo rod.
Fay was sentenced to four months in jail, a $ 2,230 fine and six lashes after pleading guilty to spray-painting and throwing bricks at cars.
President Clinton says he is "disappointed" the sentence - although reduced to four lashes - was carried out.
And the State Department says it will warn Americans traveling to Singapore that criminal offenses there bring harsh punishment.
But Fay's father, George, says, "I'm going to try everything I can to take these guys down." He says he will:
-- Sue Singapore.
-- Launch a boycott.
-- Challenge its preferential U.S. trade status.
"The objective here is to exact such a price . . . that they will never do this to another human being," he says.
Fay's mother, Randy Chan, agrees: "If they think that we're going to leave Singapore and not hear from us any more, they are very wrong."
Fay's parents are next scheduled to visit him May 17.
Prior to the caning, Fay was "nervous and scared but prepared to take it," says Dominic Nagulendran, his lawyer.
A second U.S. teen-ager, Stephen Freehill, 16, is to be tried in the same case.
