ABC's General Hospital and CBS' The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful - working around damage to sets and props caused by Monday's earthquake - resumed production Wednesday. But their stars are still looking for solid ground.
The Young and the Restless' Kate Linder, who plays Esther, Katherine Chancellor's maid on the CBS soap, says it will take months to clean up the damage to the Tudor-style home she shares with her husband of 18 years, Ron.
"It looks like a bomb went off and then somebody came in with an ax and hacked the place up," says Linder as she surveys the wreckage of their Hollywood Hills home.
Castmate Michael Tylo (Blade) says he was alone in the one-bedroom high-rise apartment he and wife Hunter Tylo (Taylor on The Bold and the Beautiful) share while working on the CBS sister soaps.
Riding the quake was "like being on the Back to the Future ride at Universal Studios but the rumbling and bumping was a thousand times worse," says Tylo, safely back in the couple's permanent residence in Las Vegas.
California-born Liz Keifer, who plays Blake on the New York-based Guiding Light, says she fled Los Angeles two years ago to "escape the quakes." But a People magazine photo shoot over the weekend put her in the middle of a nightmare.
"I was terrified," says Keifer, but she rose to the occasion and led other hotel guests to safety. Later that day she high-tailed it home, only to be faced with the East Coast's wintry deep freeze.
But don't think Angelenos are spared seasonal change, says Linder: "Fire, riots, floods and earthquakes. Maybe somebody is trying to tell us something."
