MACINTOSH COMPUTER
If you are unable to install the CNN Time Capsule using the standard installer included with the product, do the following:

2. Create a folder on your hard disk called "CNN Time Capsule 1994"
3. Insert the "CNNTC94" CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive and open it. Go to
the "View" menu and choose "by name". Open the "Macintosh" folder. Copy the application "CNNTC94 Player" from the Macintosh folder on the CD-ROM to the "CNN Time Capsule 1994" folder on your hard drive.
NOTE TO POWERMAC USERS: There is a PPC native version of the CNNTC94 Player included on this CD-ROM. Instead of copying the player in "Macintosh" folder, open the "PowerPC" folder. Inside, you will find the file "CNNTC94 PlayerPPC". Copy this application from the "PowerPC" folder on the CD-ROM to the "CNN Time Capsule 1994" folder on your hard drive.
4. Open the "Data" folder on the "CNNTC94" CD-ROM. Copy the data files
"CNNTC94.mfi" and "CNNTC94.mfd" to the "CNN Time Capsule 1994" folder on your hard drive.
5. If you don't have "QuickTime¬ 2.0" or newer installed, copy the
"QuickTime¬" system extension from the "Macintosh" folder on the "CNNTC94" CD-ROM to the "Extensions" folder in your "System Folder" on your hard drive.
NOTE TO POWERMAC USERS: To accelerate "Quicktime¬ 2.0" for your PowerPC, copy the file "QuickTime¬ PowerPlug" to the "Extensions" folder on your hard drive. It is located in the "System Folder" folder, inside the "PowerPC" folder on the CD-ROM.
6. Open the "Fonts" folder on the "CNNTC94" CD-ROM. Copy the font suitcase "TC94 Fonts" to the "Fonts" folder, in the "System Folder" folder on your hard drive.
YOU MUST RESTART YOUR MACINTOSH before you can run the Time
Capsule.
7. Launch the Time Capsule by double clicking on the "CNNTC94 Player"
application in the "CNN Time Capsule 1994" folder on your hard drive.
MANUAL INSTALLATION OF THE CNN TIME CAPSULE 1994 ON A
WINDOWS COMPUTER
If for any reason, you are unable to install the CNN Time Capsule using the
standard installer included with the product, you can install the product
manually using the following instructions:
1. Insert the CNN Time Capsule CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Run Program Manager. From the "File" menu, select "Run". Type in "X:\WINDOWS\QTW\SETUP", where "X:" is your CD-ROM drive. This will install QuickTime for Windows version 2.0.
PLEASE NOTE: The QuickTime for Windows 2.0 installer may give you the opportunity to either "Delete" or "Skip" previous versions of QuickTime for Windows. We STRONGLY recommend that you "Delete" previous versions; allowing previous versions of QuickTime to remain on your hard disk may cause problems with using CNN Time Capsule.
3. Run File Manager. Go to the "File" menu and choose "Create Directory". When prompted, create a directory on your hard drive called "cnntc94". For easiest access, put the directory in the root of your hard drive by typing a backslash before the name, i.e., "\cnntc94".
4. Highlight the "cnntc94" that appears in the left side of the File Manager
5. Select the CD-ROM drive from the File Manager and go into the "windows"
directory. Select all the files and directories in the ╥windows╙ directory by clicking the first file in the list, moving to the bottom of the list using the scrollbar, and holding down the shift key while clicking on the last file in the list. Drag all these files to your hard drive. (Note: if you are low on disk space, you don't need to install the files "AUTOPLAY.EXE" or "_UNSETUP.EXE".)
6. Select all ╥cnntc94╙ files as above and choose ╥Properties╙ from the ╥File╙ menu. Click in the box next to ╥Read Only╙ until it is clear and then click ╥OK╙.
7. Switch to the Program Manager. In the "File" menu, select "New". In the
dialog box, choose "Program Group" and click "OK". Type in "CNN Time
Capsule 1994".
8. In the "File" menu, select "New". In the dialog box, choose "Program Item" and click "OK". In the "Description" field, type "CNN Time Capsule 1994". In the "Command Line" field, type the path to the root. If you put the program at the root, type "c:\cnntc94\CNNTC94.exe". Click "OK".
9. An icon will be created for the "CNN Time Capsule 1994". Click on this icon to run the CNN Time Capsule 1994.
SINGLE-SPEED CD-ROM DRIVES PROVIDE SUB OPTIMAL VIDEO
PERFORMANCE
Customers with single-speed CD-ROM drives may find that video performance is occasionally chunky or less smooth than would be optimal. Customers with double-speed CD-ROM drives should find no problems with the video.
DIAMOND SPEEDSTAR PRO VIDEO CARD PROBLEMS - WINDOWS ONLY
There are several known problems with the Diamond Speedstar Pro video card. One problem causes some special effects (wipe left, explode, implode such as when you click on "Help") to crash and some errant vertical lines to appear on-screen. The second problem with the Diamond Speedstar Pro video card is that occasionally, heavy black vertical lines (||||||)will appear in the headline area of a Moment. This problem happens intermittently. Thirdly, the system may crash when a photo or cartoon is viewed via the Related Info window.
We have reported these problems to Diamond and you may be able to contact
them for a new driver. In the meantime, these problems only occur in 256-color mode and can be resolved by switching to 65-thousand or 16-million color mode.
If you can only run in 256-color model, you may be able to work around the
crashes caused by special effects using the following steps:
1. Double-click on the "Edit CNNTC94 INI" icon in the Program Manager in the folder where you installed the CNN Time Capsule 1994.
2. Edit the file by removing the semicolon (";") in front of the line reading
"UseTransitions = 0". Then save the file and exit.
AFTER DARK¬ INCOMPATIBILITIES WITH CNN TIME CAPSULE - WINDOWS
ONLY
Berkeley Systems' After Dark¬ screensaver can cause incompatibilities with the CNN Time Capsule. These include system crash when you click to bypass the introductory video and severe performance degradation overall. To workaround these problems, disable or close After Dark before running CNN Time Capsule 1994. On some systems, you may have to remove After Dark completely (including all device drivers) for the CNN Time Capsule 1994 to run properly.
