  2. DCA Announces CROSSTALK for Windows Version 1.2  [08-MAY-1991 RCC]

  4. ALPHARETTA, Ga. (May 7, 1991) -- Digital Communications Associates
  5. Inc. (DCA) today announced CROSSTALK for Windows version 1.2,
  6. enhanced software for asynchronous communications under Windows 3.0
  7. that now includes network support and additional terminal emulation
  8. and file transfer protocols.

  10. "The new features in CROSSTALK for Windows 1.2 make it a powerful,
  11. intuitive and cost- effective communications tool for both the
  12. corporate and single user in an environment where Windows is
  13. important," said Daniel T. McCutcheon, vice president and general
  14. manager of DCA's Crosstalk business unit.

  16. New network support features in CROSSTALK for Windows 1.2 include
  17. Interrupt 14h (INT14) and Novell Asynchronous Server
  18. Interface/Novell Communication Server Interface (NASI/NCSI),
  19. ensuring complete compatibility with a wide range of popular
  20. asynchronous communications servers from Novell, 3Com and others.

  22. With these features, users of CROSSTALK for Windows 1.2 can
  23. communicate through shared modems on a network.  For example, users
  24. on a Novell LAN can access a 3Com Communications Server to share a
  25. Hayes Ultra 9600 modem.  Since each user on the local area network
  26. (LAN) does not have to be individually equipped with a modem, the
  27. need for multiple expensive modems is eliminated.

  29. CROSSTALK for Windows 1.2 also supports VT220 and VT320 emulation,
  30. giving users access to DEC systems and applications which require
  31. these terminal types.  Users receive complete screen-handling and
  32. keyboard mapping when running DEC system applications that are
  33. written specifically for the DEC VT220 and VT320 terminals.

  35. CROSSTALK for Windows 1.2's YMODEM-G support enables users with
  36. error correcting modems -- such as Microcom Networking Protocol
  37. (MNP) modems -- to transfer files more quickly.  YMODEM-G support
  38. offers users enhanced productivity by managing transfers without
  39. checking for errors until the entire file is transferred.
  40. Conventional file transfer protocols, such as XMODEM, slow down the
  41. transfer rate when used with error correcting modems by redundantly
  42. checking for errors.

  44. Additional enhancements to CROSSTALK for Windows 1.2 include a new
  45. Windows-based installation routine that allows users to install the
  46. program from within Windows and creates a Crosstalk "group" in
  47. Program Manager for more efficient desktop organization.  The
  48. package also includes a set of Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) example
  49. scripts that illustrate data exchange with Microsoft Excel.

  51. Through a special marketing program, registered U.S. and Canadian
  52. users of CROSSTALK for Windows may upgrade to version 1.2 for a
  53. price of $49 (U.S.).  Users who purchased CROSSTALK for Windows
  54. after February 25, 1991 may upgrade to the new version free of
  55. charge.

  57. CROSSTALK for Windows 1.2 is available now worldwide for a suggested
  58. U.S. retail price of $195 through DCA's standard distribution
  59. network.
