TITLE: Some Application Entries for File Type Are Not Listed
PRODUCT: Ami Pro 2.0
DATE: 12-Nov-1991
PROBLEM:
When File / Open is chosen, the only file types that are available are "Ami
Pro" and "Ami Pro Macro". Other file types such as ASCII, dBase, DCA/FFT,
etc. are missing.
SOLUTION:
Use Windows Notepad or any other ASCII file editor to view the file AMIPRO.INI
located in the Windows program directory. This file controls many aspects of
Ami Pro including the applications that are listed as file types during File /
Open. The AMIPRO.INI file should list 41 application lines for the types of
files that can be opened or imported in Ami Pro. If the application lines are
not present, or if some of the application lines are present but are not
consecutively numbered, the file type list for File / Open will not be
complete.
If the application lines were not present immediately after installing Ami Pro
release 2.0, it will be necessary to delete the AMIPRO.INI file and reinstall
the program.
HOW TO LOOK AT AMIPRO.INI
1. If Ami Pro is currently running, press ALT + F4 to exit.
2. From the Windows Program Manager run Notepad (there is usually an icon for
Notepad in one of the Program Manager groups).
3. In Notepad choose File / Open.
4. Specify the file name AMIPRO.INI in the Windows program directory and
choose OK.
5. Look for the application lines. The following is a listing of the
application lines that should be present in AMIPRO.INI:
application1=ASCII,T,.*,ASCII.FLT
application2=Samna Word,T,.*,SAMNA.FLT
application3=TIFF,B,.TIF,TIFF.FLT
application4=PCX,B,.PCX,PCX.FLT
application5=WordPerfect 5.0 & 5.1,T,.*,WP.FLT

application39=Freelance,B,.DRW,FLFLT.FLT
application40=DisplayWrite 4,T,.doc,dw4.flt
application41=DrawPerfect,B,.WPG,WPG.FLT
6. If application lines have been deleted because you are eliminating some of
the import filters, perform the steps a-d below. Otherwise, go to Step
7.
a. Retype the numbers (application1, application2, etc.) in consecutive
order. Other than Ami Pro and Ami Pro Macro, the Ami Pro program will
not list application file types beyond the last application entry which
is in sequential order. For example, if the line application2=Samna
Word,T,.*,SAMNA.FLT has been deleted from AMIPRO.INI, only Ami Pro, Ami
Pro Macro, and ASCII will display in the file type list box during File
/ Open. Since the last consecutive number is 1 for the ASCII filter,
the other applications will not be listed during File / Open.
b. Choose File / Save to save the changes.
c. Press ALT + F4 to exit Notepad.
d. Run Ami Pro and choose File / Open. The File Type list box should now
correctly show all supported applications.
7. If none of the application lines are present, perform steps a-x below to
reinstall Ami Pro.
a. From the Windows Program Manager run Notepad (there is usually an icon
for Notepad in one of the program manager groups).
b. In Notepad choose File / Open.
c. Specify the file name WIN.INI in the Windows program directory and
choose OK.
d. Choose Search / Find.
e. Type [AmiPro] for the Find What option.
f. Choose OK.
g. If an AmiPro section is found, delete the entire section including the
title [AmiPro].
h. Press CTRL + HOME to return to the beginning of the file.
i. Choose Search / Find.
j. Type [AmiVISD] for the Find What option.
k. Choose OK.
l. If an [AmiVISD] section is found, delete the entire section including
the title [AmiVISD].
m. Choose File / Save to save the changes if any lines were deleted.
n. Press ALT + F4 to close Notepad.
o. Exit Ami Pro and Windows completely to the DOS prompt.
p. At the DOS prompt type the letter of the drive on which Windows is
installed followed by a colon (:). For example, if Windows is
installed on drive C type:
C: and press ENTER.
q. Change to the directory where Windows is installed by typing:
CD \PATH and press ENTER. \PATH should be the path to the Windows
directory (usually \WINDOWS).
r. At the DOS prompt type:
DEL AMIPRO.INI and press ENTER.
DEL AMIVISD.INI and press ENTER.
DEL AMIEQN.INI and press ENTER.
DEL AMIIMAGE.INI and press ENTER.
s. Change to the directory where Ami Pro is installed by typing:
CD \PATH and press ENTER. \PATH should be the path to the Ami Pro
program directory (usually \AMIPRO). NOTE: If the Ami Pro program is
installed on another drive, change to the other drive by typing the
drive letter followed by a colon, then press ENTER. Then change to the
Ami Pro directory.
t. Type at the DOS prompt:
DEL *.DLL and press ENTER.
u. Insert the Ami Pro program disk one in a floppy drive.
v. Load Windows.
w. From the Windows Program Manager choose File / Run.
x. For the Command Line option type X:\INSTALL.EXE and choose OK. X
should be the letter of the floppy drive which contains the Ami Pro
program disk one.
After Ami Pro is installed, the File Type list box for File / Open should
correctly list all supported applications.
