  5. MIDI Edit is a full featured MIDI sequencer that runs in Windows 3.0.  It
  6. uses standard MIDI files, so the resulting sequences can be used almost
  7. anywhere.

  9. Major features include:
  10.     - imports Adlib ROL files
  11.     - up to 64 tracks
  12.     - runs in ALL Windows modes (including enhanced mode)
  13.     - will play songs in the background
  14.     - very powerful editing commands
  15.     - unique piano roll style notation for editing
  16.     - full online help
  17.     - supports standard MIDI files
  18.  
  19. MIDI Edit is ShareWare - not AnnoyWare or FreeWare.

  23. The following equipment is required to use MIDI Edit:
  24.     - PC running Microsoft Windows 3.0 or above (any mode)
  25.     - a mouse (not strictly required, but very handy)
  26.     - a Roland MPU-401 MIDI interface (or compatible)
  27.     - a MIDI Keyboard
  28.     - some MIDI noise boxes
  29.  
  30. Actually the above list is somewhat misleading.  All you really need is a
  31. PC and Windows.  However it is difficult to play or record without some
  32. MIDI equipment.

  36. Installation

  38. Simply create a directory and copy the files into it.  You should have the
  39. following files:
  40.         MIDIEDIT.EXE    - MIDI Edit executable
  41.         MIDILIB.DLL     - DLL which runs the MIDI hardware
  42.         MIDIEDIT.HLP    - the online help file
  43.         README          - this file
  44.         SONGS.DOC       - explanation and credits on sample songs
  45.         MIN-G.MID       - Bach's Minuet in G (kind of)
  46.         GREENSL.MID     - Nice arrangement of Greensleeves
  47.         CHINESE.MID     - Chinese Dance from the Nutcracker

  49. Add an icon to program manager using the File New command of program
  50. manager.  Double click on the icon to start MIDI Edit.

  52. MIDI Edit will display a quick introductory screen which will only appear
  53. once!  As it says, use the MIDI Configure command to configure MIDI Edit
  54. for your hardware.  Help contains a topic Quick Start which may also be
  55. interesting.

  59. ShareWare
  60.  
  61. MIDI Edit is not a free program, but is being distributed under the
  62. ShareWare concept.  This allows you to evaluate the program to determine
  63. whether it is worth anything, and then buy it if you are going to use it.
  64. You must register the program if you are going to use it.

  66. The version of MIDI Edit you have is fully featured and is in no way
  67. crippled.  There are no annoying message boxes that appear reminding you to
  68. register either.  Please respect this.  If you use MIDI Edit after a
  69. reasonable evaluation period of two weeks, register the program.  If you
  70. don't think you can afford to send me $25, check out the other options
  71. listed in the help.  If you don't think MIDI Edit is worth the money, let
  72. me know this too, and I'll see if I can satisfy you with the next release.

  86. as all files are included and no money is charged.  A small copying fee not
  87. exceeding $10 US is charged.

  104. I have written another Windows based MIDI program which will be released
  105. shortly.  This program is still in need of a name, but I can tell you what
  106. it does.  It is a MID file player for Windows.  You can use this program to
  107. build albums of songs to play, which are then played in the background
  108. while you do something "useful" with your computer.  Watch for it soon.
