This is a demo version of CADDIEHACK. A full-featured version of the
game is available for $20 from MICODE Developments, P.O. Box 1621
Herndon, Va. 22070-1621.
CADDIEHACK is a golf game written for EGA and VGA systems. For CGA
users, CADDIEHACK CGA TOUR is available for $15. Further details are
available within the program.
ARCH is a course architect program used to create holes for CADDIEHACK
and CADDIEHACK CGA TOUR. The databases for both games are sets of
polygons. The polygons are drawn in the order that they are encountered
in the database. For example, in order to put sand on the fairway, draw
the fairway, then the sand. ARCH displays the image as it will appear
in CADDIEHACK.
INSTALLATION ON A HARD DISK
All the files on the disk can be copied into a single directory
on your hard disk, or you may copy the course databases into
a directory called POMPANO. Each time the program needs a new
database, it will first look for the file in a directory called
POMPANO in your present directory. If the program does not find the
directory, it will look for each file in your present directory.
DETAILS OF `CADDIEHACK'
Pointers for winning shots:
1. Tapping the space bar begins the shot. For maximum power, allow the
swing pointer to climb to the top of the grid (blue area, not yellow).
Each line up the grid represents 10 percent of the maximum power.
2. Tap the space bar a second time to select the power of the swing. If
you wait until the swing pointer has passed 100 percent power (and gone
into the yellow area), your power is reduced dramatically. If the
swing pointer reaches the top of the yellow area, you miss the ball.
Suggestion: try to get between 90% and 100% power, the small
difference of getting 100 percent is not worth the risk
of going past 100% except in the most heated contest.
3. Tap the space bar a third time to make contact with the ball. If you
tap the space bar too early, you miss the ball. If you wait too long
until after the pointer is well into the yellow area below the grid,
you also miss the ball. If you do hit the ball, but hit it early, it
will slice right and with reduced power. Hitting late will hook left
and also reduce power of the shot.
Note: For putting on the closeup view only, the third tap will not
hook or slice but will cause a reduction of power. This causes
many players to consistently hit short putts.
On the other hand, putting too hard will cause the ball to roll
right over the cup.
4. Club selection is based upon distance to hole, wind, and playing level.
The built in caddie usually picks the right club. To keep the game
interesting, the caddie will not judge course hazards so choose your
club wisely when near water.
Course Circumstances:
1. The driver is only available on the tee.
2. Hitting the ball from short grass (light green) allows full power.
3. Hitting the ball from longer grass (dark green) slightly reduces
the distance that the ball will travel.
4. Hitting the ball from puddles and rough will reduce the distance that
the ball travels even more.
5. The sand wedge is always suggested by the caddie when you are in
sand. You may choose another club; however, if you hook or slice,
the ball will curve more with other clubs than it normally would.
6. Water is only a one stroke penalty, but the shot must be replayed.
In the CGA TOUR, the ball is played from where it enters the water.
7. The grade of the course is randomly generated for each hole, but only
shown when putting. The more arrows, the stronger the grade. For
example, > is a grade to the right.
8. Wind is also generated at random for each hole. Use the arrow keys
to adjust the direction of the shot before starting the swing.
9. At the end of 18 holes, a handicap and final ranking is calculated
based on the score and the playing level.
