- Notes about Continuum 1.01
-
- 1. Continuum's files (the Galaxy, Highscores, etc) can either be in the
- same folder as the main program or in a subfolder named "Cont Files".
-
- 2. To erase the high score list, throw the "Highscores" file in the trash
- can. Once your name is on the list, you can start another game by clicking
- on your name. Only the highest of each person's scores is kept; if one is
- vastly better than the rest, it will show through his/her score, not the
- number of times the name appears.
-
- 3. Continuum will run on any MacII, though the screen should be in 2-bit
- mode for clean animation. It will run on the Mac 512K, 512KE, Plus, and
- SE, though it is not compatible with Multifinder on these latter machines.
- Continuum is incompatible with System file version 6.0 on a Mac 512K through
- SE. Apple has promised to fix the bug in 6.0.1. It works fine with any
- previous systems. It will not run on a 128K Mac. People tell me it is
- incompatible with Appleshare; some have run it (without sound) under A/UX.
-
- 4. Version 1.01 is basically a bug fix to version 1.0. The following are
- some of the bugs that are fixed in 1.01:
- - It now warns you if the ramcache is using the second screen, and
- allows you to quit or attempt to run it anyway (see note 5).
- - It no longer crashes at the end of a game with the sound off on
- a Macintosh II.
- - It quits more gracefully if it runs out of memory.
- - Level 9, due to popular loathing, is now level 20, closer to where
- it should have been.
-
- 5. Because Continuum uses the second graphics buffer on all Macs except
- the II series, it is normally incompatible with the Ramcache, Macsbug, and
- many INITs that use high memory. Using a reserve-second-screen INIT,
- however, it is possible to reserve this memory and then use all the other
- stuff as well. Click the button marked "Reserve-2nd INIT" ONLY IF YOU ARE
- USING A RESERVE-2ND-SCREEN INIT. Otherwise your mac will crash at strange
- times, and damage to data might result.
- An INIT to reserve the second screen, called "Page 2 Saver", is included
- with this release. I didn't write it and I make no claims as to its
- safety, but I used it while developing Continuum. Just put it in your
- System Folder and reboot; to get it to load before another INIT that
- uses high memory, rename it something alphabetically before the
- other, like "A Page 2 Saver". This procedure is only recommended
- for Macintosh users who really know what they are doing. It is much safer
- just to turn the RamCache off before running Continuum.
