- FOUR-WAY BAPTISM
-
- "Four-way baptism makes ecumenical history." This was the title of a
- news report issued by the National Council of Churches concerning what
- it called "the first multi-denominational baptism service since the
- Protestant Reformation." The one-and-a-half-hour service held at the
- Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Sacramento included
- participating bishops from the Roman Catholic Church, the Episcopal
- Church, the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of America
- (Oriental Orthodox), and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
- Each of four children was baptized in his or her own Christian
- tradition, according to this report, "but under one roof, in the water
- of one font, knit together by one liturgy, celebrated in the power of
- the Holy Spirit, by one people." A woman leader of the NCC spoke at
- this ecumenical baptism and was quoted as saying, "As you grow older,
- you will come to appreciate the richness of God's gift, given to you
- today, and you will remember that we are one family: Orthodox,
- Anglican, Roman Catholic, and Protestant, with an extended family of
- all who believe." A religious Tower of Babel is being constructed by
- religious apostates, and God's people should have nothing to do with
- it!
