There are several Demos on this diskette, which demonstrate smx and related
products. See "smxNet demo," below, for directions if you wish to run
the smxNet demo.
For all demos other than smxNet demo, type
a:rundemos
to start the demo instal/run program. Note that you must run the Demo Disk
from your A drive, since you are asked, during certain demos, to reboot
your computer from the Demo Disk. If your A drive is a 3 1/2" floppy
drive, see "Notice to 3 1/2" Disk Users", below.
The demo files are compressed on the disk. They must be uncompressed
onto your hard disk before being run. This is done by rundemos.exe.
NOTE: Do NOT run the .exe files on this disk (except for rundemos.exe).
^^^^ These are self-decompressing files which contain the demos. Running
them will cause demo files to be put onto your hard disk in whatever
directory you happen to be in. They will not run properly if this
happens since directory structure will not be preserved.
Once the files for a particular demo are on your hard disk, you can run
directly from your hard disk, rather than using rundemos.
In any case, it is a good idea to look at the files that are installed,
since there are document files and sample source code files to look at.
Although full source code for the demos is not provided, we have included,
for some of the demos, a pertinent source file as an example of how to use
the particular product
Do not delete test.dat, since several of the demos use it.
Notice to 3 1/2" Disk Users
---------------------------
The Demo Disk must be run from drive A, because certain demos ask you to
reboot your computer from the Demo Disk. If your computer has a 3 1/2" A:
drive and also has a 5 1/4" drive, follow these instructions, or request
the Demo Disk in 3 1/2" format:
1. Format a 3 1/2" HIGH DENSITY, bootable disk:
format a:/s
It is necessary that you use a HIGH DENSITY disk in order
for the smxFile demo to work properly.
2. Copy all files from the Demo Disk to it, preserving
directory structure. Example:
xcopy /s/v b:\*.* a:\
smxNet Demo Instructions
------------------------
The smxNet demo does not run from rundemos, as the other demos do.
To install it, type:
a:\netinst from the root of your hard disk.
This will decompress and copy the smxNet demo files onto your hard
disk into the \SMXDEMO\NET directory. See net.doc, there, for further
directions on running the demo.
