  34. Currency exchange
  35.  
  36.      The only official organization authorized to exchange foreign currency is
  37. the Mongolian state bank. They have a network of branch and exchange bureau
  38. at "Zhuulchin" hotels.
  39.  
  40. Exchange rate
  41.  
  42.      Foreign tourists can exchange their currency only at the official
  43. exchange rate as set by the Mongolian state bank. The exchange rate is that
  44. one USD equals to about 3 Tugriks. It is advisable to keep receipts as these
  45. may be required at customs on departure.

  47. Customs
  48.  
  49.      Every tourist must fill in a customs declaration form which should be
  50. retained until departure. This allows the free import and reexport of articles
  51. intended for personal use for duration of stay. It is prohibited to import
  52. and export:
  53.  
  54.      - guns, weapons and ammunations without special permission
  55.  
  56.      - explosive items
  57.  
  58.      - radioactive substance
  59.  
  60.      - opium, hashish and other narcotics
  61.  
  62.      - pornographic publications
  63.  
  64.      - publications, records films and drawings directed against Mongolia.
  65.  
  66.      - research materials, paleontological and archeological findings,
  67. collection of various plants and their seeds, birds, wild and domestic
  68. animals, wool, raw skins and hides and furs without permissions of appropriate
  69. Mongolian authorities.

  71. Health requirements
  72.  
  73.      Yellow fever, smallpox , cholera vaccinations and revaccinations are
  74. required.

  76. Hotel check-out time
  77.  
  78.      The hotel check-out time is 12.00 noon.
  79.  
  80. Medical services
  81.  
  82.      Medical services are available everywhere. All necessary expenses
  83. connecting with medical treatment have to be paid by patient.
  84.  
  85. Electric current
  86.  
  87.      The standard voltage in Mongolia is 220 volts/50 Hz. Sockets require a
  88. European type plug or adaptor.
  89.  
  90. Shopping
  91.  
  92.      Time is allotted for shopping in UlanBator and at the tourist camps.
  93. There are duty free shops where convertible currencies are acceptable. In
  94. these a wide range of goods may be bought for foreign currency at favourable
  95. prices-typical Mongolian souvenirs, wines, furs, garments in cashmere, camel
  96. wool blankets, national costumes, boots, jewellery, carpets books, records,
  97. horns, etc.

  99.      In all other local shop only local currency must be used. It is advisable
  100. to keep receipts as these may be required at customs on departure.
  101.  
  102.      The following convertible currencies are acceptable for payment in
  103. duty-free shops:

  108.  
  109.      - Deutsche mark
  110.  
  111.      - French frank

  113.      - Swiss frank

  115.      - Japanese yen

  117.      No credit card and personal cheque are accepted for payment in duty-free
  118. shops.

  120. Condition of payment
  121.  
  122.      Deposit in the amount of 500 USD per group must be forwarded to the State
  123. Bank of Mongolia 3 months prior to arrival of a group in Mongolia.
  124.  
  125.      Final payment for each tour can be settled completely in cash or American
  126. Express traveller's cheque by tour escort or made by telegraphic transfer in
  127. advance to:
  128. the account No 306011 of Zhuulchin at the State Bank of the
  129. Mongolian People's Republic in Ulanbator
  130.  
  131.      Telegraphic transfer should be made at least one month prior to group's
  132. arrival in Mongolia. Payment is settled in the convertible currencies.
  133.  
  134. Note:
  135.  
  136.      a) No credit cards and personal checks are acceptable for payment.
  137.  
  138.      b) Cash payment is required by individual tourists on the spot.
  139.  
  140.      c) 1% commission fee is charged additionally for cashing traveller's
  141. cheques.
