Mondercange. 4 300 inh. - a: 290 m. With the localities of Pontpierre,
Foetz and Bergem. Situated in the Alzette plain between the capital and the
southern metropolis. The church of Mondercange is classified as a historical
building. Recreation centre "Henneboesch", the "Mettendall" fish-ponds,
playground for children, international karting track, marked walking path
which links Pontpierre with Bergem. Player's at Foetz (tennis, solarium,
squash and sauna).
Mondorf-les-Bains. 2 500 inh. - a: 194 m. A small town situated in the
south-eastern part of the country. Protected from the winds by the surrounding
hills, Mondorf-les-Bains is a thermal and tourist station with a favourable
climate. The very new thermal centre "Mondorf le Domaine Thermal" shelters a
health establishment, a sports and leisure club and a hotel. The thermal
installations rank among the most modern and are fed by three springs which
supply a very mineralized water of 24C. It is used for the treatment of
complaints of the liver, gall, bladder, stomach and intestines, as well as
rheumatism in all its forms. The health establishment is specialized in
physical rehabilitation and breath education, as well as a service of
cardiology and urology consultations are to be added to the assortment of
therapeutic possibilities of the thermal station. The sports and leisure club
(700F per person) offers the following kinds of sports: tennis, squash, golf
simulator, body-building, saunas, finish saunas, turkish bath, thermal
swimming pool (36C, inside and outside - 300F per person), open air swimming
pool (28C) with artificial waves, waterfall and geyser. The park of Mondorf
(36 ha) with its massive trees, shrubs and plants of all kind, the flowered
gardens, the greenish meadows, the spring garden and the rosarium invites to
relax. During the whole year Mondorf offers a large choice of attractions:
tennis, fencing and archery tournaments, horse-races and training, etc.
Guided walks and coach sightseeing tours. Numerous festivities and evening
entertainment. The local orchestra, composed by excellent artists, plays
daily concerts. Casino 2000 (french and american roulette, black Jack, slot
machines) offers a weekly entertainment program and riding competitions. Worth
to be visited: St. Michael's Church (1764-1766) with its furniture and
frescoes (guided visits from May to September, every first Monday of the
month at 5 p.m.), the Castel, a little Roman fortress transformed into a
hermitage in the Middle-Ages. Many houses "Art Nouveau". At one km the
flowered village of Ellange. Restored churches with interesting furnishings
at Altwies and Ellange. Possibility to rent horses at Elvange.
Mullerthal. See Waldbillig.
Nocher. See Dahl.
Nommern. 664 inh. - a: 310-330 m. Rural locality where the slopes are
covered with fruit trees furnishing delicious spirits (Quetsch etc.). The
surrounding woods, with murallike ledges of rocks and holes (Nommerlayen)
invite for walks. In a picturesque scenery a Luxembourg sandstone in the form
of a mushroom "Champignon". The commune of Nommern includes also the villages
of Cruchten (station) in the valley of the Alzette river and surrounded by
beautiful isolated farms, Schrondweiler with its Neoroman church and Glabach
dominated by a chapel.
Nospelt. 530 inh. - a: 320 m. Former capital of the Luxembourg
earthenware. Several amateur potters are still practising this art. Pottery
museum. The "Emaischen", a popular pottery-festival is held each year on
Easter Monday. Sale of ceramics and earthenware on the last weekend in July
and on the first weekend in August. A Day of the Pottery and Handicraft is
held the last Sunday in July. Antiques fair on the first Sunday in August.
Pleasant promenades. Historical ruins near Goeblange (partially reconstructed
Gallo-Roman villas).
Nothum. See Kaundorf.
Osweiler. See Rosport.
Perle. 450 inh. - a: 520 m. Martelange-Rombach. 110 inh. - a: 370 m.
Holtz, 160 inh. Perle and Holtz are situated on a plateau, while
Martelange-Rombach lies in the Valley of the Sure. With its valleys, deeply
carved into the slaty Ardennes rocks, its large forests and numerous hiking
paths, the Upper Sure is an area which is exceptionally appropriate for
relaxation and recovery. By snowy weather crosscountry skiing. A map with
regional walking paths is sold by the local Tourist Office.
Petange. 6 000 inh. - a: 290 m. Rodange. 4 500 inh. Lamadelaine. 1 500
inh. These well built and pleasant towns are situated close to the Belgian and
French borders. Petange and Lamadelaine lie at the foot of the historic
Tetelbierg, an ancient Roman fortification (the excavations can be visited).
Covered swimming pool at Petange, open air swimming pool at Rodange. 40 km
of good walks. A picturesque touristic train leads from Rodange to
Fond-de-Gras. Two ponds for fishing (Lamadelaine and Petange).
Pintsch. See Wilwerwiltz.
Rambrouch with Schwiedelbrouch and Koetschette. 420 inh. - a: 530 m.
Ardennes villages near the Belgian border and the Upper Sure Lake. Agreeable
landscape. Various tourist paths.
Redange-sur-Attert. 850 inh. - a: 325 m. Situated on the Attert, a quiet
and pleasant holiday resort in the centre of densely wooded agricultural
country. Streets bordered by chesnut, ash and limetrees. Old mills and farms,
the "Jangley" bridge, sports centre, fishing ponds. This main village of the
canton of Redange is a regional centre for administration, trade, banking,
arts and crafts.
Reisdorf. 260 inh. - a: 180 m. Wallendorf-Pont. 60 inh. Bigelbach. 90
inh. and Hoesdorf. 80 inh. At the meeting point of the rivers Our, Ernz
Blanche and Sure, Reisdorf and Wallendorf-Pont are situated in wooded
country. The hills of Bigelbach give an extensive view over the Eifel region
in Germany. Remains of a Roman villa. The steeple of Hoesdorf in the charming
valley of the Our is a historical monument. U.S. monument remembering the
Battle of the Bulge. Bicycle rental. A regional walking map is available.
Remerschen. 600 inh. - a: 157 m. Schengen. 315 inh. and Wintrange. 220
inh. Well-known wine centres. The cellars "Caves Cooperatives du Sud" at
Remerschen have a capacity of 55 000 hectolitres. Recreation area with several
lakes where different watersports are practised. At Schengen, southern gate
to the Wine Road, a tower of the 13th century. From the Stromberg unique view
over the Moselle Valley and the heights of Lorraine. Dam and lock of the
Moselle canal. A bridge links Schengen, well-known for its Pinot wine, with
the German bank of the Moselle. Wintrange with its castle (1610), lying at the
foot of vineyards, is known for its renowned wines.
Remich. 2 350 inh. - a: 142 m. Tourist town on the European highway
Saarbrucken-Luxembourg. Picturesque place at the foot of the vineyards and
on the bank of the Moselle. Important wine and commercial centre. Seat of the
State Viticulture Institute and the National Wine Mark. Wine caves with
international reputation - guided visits. Tasting pavilions for wine and
sparkling wine. Outstanding tourist infrastructure. Magnificent tree-shaded
river promenade (Esplanade). Panoramic views and arranged picnic corners.
Motor-boat trips. Embarkation quay for the MS Princesse Marie-Astrid and other
