Fishing, Boating and Water Activities
fishing
The fishing licences are issued by the District Commissioners of
Luxembourg, Diekirch and Grevenmacher as well as by different communal
administrations, for instance Bavigne, Boulaide, Clervaux, Esch-sur-Sure,
Ettelbruck, Harlange, Neunhausen, Rambrouch, Vianden and Wiltz.
In inland waters fishing is allowed only in public waters, that is, in
the protection-zone II of the Upper Sure lake and the Mid-Sure sector
between the mouth-piece of the Alzette at Ettelbruck and the mouth-piece of
the Our at Wallendorf. Fishing is not allowed in the fish reserve between the
weir of Moestroff and the bridge at Reisdorf. Fishing in the public inland
waters from the river-banks is authorized only to bearers of a fishing licence
(permit) taxed 750 F per year or 150 F per month. In the protection-zone II
of the Upper Sure lake fishing with one or two hand-tackles is authorized,
from whereas in the Mid-Sure sector only one hand-tackle may be used. Fishing
boats requires a special licence taxed 1 000 F per year or 200 F per month.
In all other inland waters fishing being authorized only with a written
permission handed out by the tenant of the fishing rights and a valid annual
or monthly permit taxed respectively 500 or 100 F.
Fishing in the eastern border rivers Moselle, Sure and Our (Germany) is
authorized only to holders of a fishing licence. The amount to pay for fishing
from the river banks is 600 F per year, 400 F per month and 200 F per week.
Fishing from boats requires a licence taxed 1 600 F per year, 1 000 F per
month and 400 F per week. To fish along the Our requires a written permission
by the river resident besides the fishing permit. Boat-fishing is not allowed
on the Our. In all frontier waters the simultaneous use of several
fishing-tackles is prohibited.
Considering the complexity of the legislation regulating the practice
of fishing as well in the waters as in the frontier waters, it is warmly
recommended to ask for more detailed and up to date information at the
"Administration des Eaux et Forets" P.O. Box 411, L-2014 Luxembourg. A
folder with the main dispositions relating to fishing is obtainable.
In the ponds of Boulaide, Clemency, Clervaux-Reuler,
Erpeldange/Ettelbruck, Fischbach/Mersch, Grevenmacher, Kockelscheuer,
Lamadelaine, Olingen, Petange, Pratz, Redange/Attert, Remerschen, the Gander
in the park of Mondorf-les-Bains and in the lakes of Echternach and
Weiswampach fishing is allowed without any formality other than the payment
of an indemnity.

of customs documents.

Boating can be practised on the easy rivers Moselle and Lower Sure, the
water levels of which are sufficient all the year round, and on the rivers for
sport Clerve, Wiltz, Our and Upper Sure.
Classification of the rivers: Lower Sure from Ettelbruck to
Wasserbillig: Cl. 1 Lower Our from Vianden to junction: Cl. 1 Upper Sure

Clerve from Wilwerwiltz to Kautenbach: Cl. 2 Wiltz from Merkholtz to

regular waves, unimportant rapids).
Class 2: Minor difficulties (unobstructed rapids with quick-flowing
water, wide-open passages, deck-cover recommended).
For detailed information apply to the Office National du Tourisme in
