  50. A: With CompuPic running, Pull down the 'Help' menu and select
  51.    the "Ordering CompuPic" option.  Registration takes just a
  52.    few minutes and is done using a registration password, so
  53.    you will be up and running instantly.

  56. Q: Which version of CompuPic do I have?

  58. A: At the top of this file, there is a date, a version number
  59.    and a build number.  The version number is related to
  60.    significant feature enhancements and the build number is
  61.    related to minor problem fixes and enhancements.  This
  62.    information is also at the bottom of the opening window.

  65. Q: How often does Photodex release new versions?

  67. A: New versions of CompuPic are released often.  For the
  68.    latest version, check the Photodex forum(s) on CompuServe,
  69.    America Online and the internet.  Try to keep updated as
  70.    Photodex is always fixing bugs and adding new features.

  76.    Photodex), the web (www.photodex.com), or FTP to
  77.    ftp.photodex.com.   The current revision histories and
  78.    builds are always listed.

  81. Q: How may I distribute CompuPic?
  82. ---------------------------------
  83. A: The CompuPic software may be distributed freely in the
  84.    original form as downloaded from from any of Photodex's
  85.    authorized distribution outlets.  You are not permitted to
  86.    modify CompuPic from its original (self-extracting) form,
  87.    and you are not permitted to distribute any installed copy.
  88.    Distribution of any Photodex registration passwords is
  89.    a breach of the license agreement, and is punishable by
  90.    law.  Please refer to the licensing agreement in the CPIC
  91.    installation program or in the CPIC help contents for more.

  96. Known Problems & Application Notes
  97. ==================================
  98. * Crash problems involving the DEF.PHD file have been chronic
  99.   on certain systems and are corrected in CPIC 1.50 and later.
  100.   If you have a problem with the stability of CPIC after
  101.   version 1.50, please contact Photodex immediately.
  102.  
  103. * There is a known problem with Diamond Speedstar video
  104.   adapters (and some others) which can crash the machine when
  105.   displaying images which are exactly 1024 bytes wide.  This
  106.   is a bug in Diamond's video driver, and cannot be worked
  107.   around without severely handicapping CPIC for all other
  108.   users.  To correct the problem, use the Advanced Image
  109.   Viewer Options and change the Max VBIT Width to 512.
  110.  
  111. * Most software-only MPEG MCI drivers have many bugs.
  112.   Photodex has not yet found a good enough MPEG decoder to
  113.   recommend it with 100% confidence, but we are actively
  114.   working on a solution which is good enough for everyone.

  116. * The AutoDesk FLI MCI driver is buggy in full screen mode,
  117.   and can crash the machine.  There is no fix.  For more
  118.   information, contact AutoDesk.
  119.  
  120. * Some MCI drivers have a bug which leaves the multimedia
  121.   file open after playback.  Deleting these files becomes
  122.   impossible because of a sharing violation until after the
  123.   system has been restarted.  Restart the system to delete
  124.   these files.

  126. * Some CD-ROM drivers have a bug which can crash the system
  127.   if a music CD is in the drive when CPIC checks to verify the
  128.   media.  To work around this problem, uncheck the "CD-ROM
  129.   discs" checkbox in the "Instant Help Text" section of the
  130.   Path List Options dialog box.
  131.  
  132. * Many Windows 95 video drivers crash when 320x240 mode is
  133.   used for instant zooming in the viewer.  To avoid this,
  134.   disable the 320x240 mode option in the Options menu of the
  135.   image viewer.
  136.  
  137. * CD-ROM Changers:  Avoid them if possible.  They're cheaper
  138.   than separate CD drives, but very inefficient for software
  139.   accessing multiple CD's at once.  CPIC has been set up to
  140.   minimize the number of disc-changes.  For the best results,
  141.   let CPIC read through all of our CD's in the changer(s)
  142.   before trying to use CPIC.  CPIC will stop indexing the
  143.   discs when it has read enough information, and you should be
  144.   able to use CPIC from then on without much trouble.  Also,
  145.   avoid queuing thumbnail creation on CD's in the same CD
  146.   changer at the same time.

  148.   TO CREATE THUMBNAILS OF THOUSANDS OF FILES SPREAD ACROSS
  149.   MANY CD'S USING A CD-ROM CHANGER:  (1) Let CPIC work until
  150.   it stops changing CD's.  (2) In the File List options, turn
  151.   off the "auto-create" options.  (3) Select a CD's path in
  152.   the path list to the left.  (4) Select Expand Path in the
  153.   Paths menu.  (5) Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you've expanded
  154.   all of the CD's you want to catalog.  (5) Select the entire
  155.   range of open paths, so you get a display of all of the
  156.   files.  (6) Press Ctrl+A to select all of the entries.
  157.   (7) Click on the thumb button and go to sleep for a few
  158.   hours (or days, depending on how many drives you have!)
