  13. -1-   STARTING UP SHELL
  14.  
  15. Windows 3.x
  16. ------------
  17. -    In program manager click onto File.  A roll menu will descend.
  18. -    Click on Start.
  19. -    Type 'X:\START' (without the quotation marks) and press ENTER.
  20.         (X represents the disk letter of your CD-ROM player. If your 
  21.         CD-ROM player is D, then type in 'D:\START').
  22.  
  23. Windows 95
  24. -----------
  25. This CD supports the AUTORUN of Windows 95.  This means that the SHELL 
  26. will start by itself if you use Windows 95. If the SHELL fails to appear 
  27. by itself within five minutes, proceed as follows:
  28.  
  29. -    Click on the Start button.  A roll menu appears.
  30. -    Click on Execute.
  31. -    Type 'X:\START' (without the quotation marks) and press ENTER.
  32.         (X represents the disk letter of your CD-ROM player. If your 
  33.         CD-ROM player is D, then type in 'D:\START').

  37. -2-   SETTING WINDOWS FOR 32,768 COLOURS
  38.  
  39. As you may have read on the back of the CD jacket, the multimedia shell 
  40. needs a Windows desk top for 32,768 colours.  If you don't have this, you
  41. get the following error message during starting up the CD-ROM MAGIC:
  42.  
  43. 'Not enough colours available; this application needs a display mode with 
  44. thousands of colors.'
  45.  
  46. You can change the palette of the SVGA card in Windows 95 as follows:
  47. -    Go to an empty piece of screen with the mouse curser.
  48. -    Click the right mouse button.  You will then see a roll menu.
  49. -    Click on 'characteristics'.  You will see a window for monitor 
  50.         settings.
  51. -    Click on 'settings'.  At the 'palette' box you can now set
  52.         'high resolution 16 bits'.
  53.  
  54. In Windows 3.x you make the setting as follows:
  55. -    Double click on Windows Setup.  You can usually find this program
  56.         in the Main Group window.
  57. -    Click on Options and select 'Change system settings'.
  58. -    Click on Reproduction.  You can now select the desired 'Screen 
  59.         driver'.
  60. -    Select 'Another screen (OEM diskette required)'.  The computer now 
  61.         requests the driver diskette that was supplied with the computer.
  62. -    Select the driver which best matches the necessary configuration
  63.         (hence a minimum of 640 x 480, 32,768 colours or higher).
  64.  
  65. If the above changes have no effect, contact your computer dealer. If you 
  66. have no driver diskette, check with your computer dealer. He will have the 
  67. diskette.

  69. Check whether at least 1 Mb of memory is present on your video card. If 
  70. this is not the case, you will be unable to start up the shell! You will
  71. then have to buy a better SVGA video card.

  75. -3-   THE MULTI-MEDIA SHELL EXPLAINED
  76.  
  77. To make it easier to have a look at this CD we had a MULTI-MEDIA SHELL
  78. designed. With this shell you can read the various FILES.BBS files. After 
  79. that you can unpack the programs on the CD to your hard disk with a simple
  80. push of the left mouse button.
  81.  
  82. CAUTION:  After being unpacked the programs often still need to be 
  83. installed!  You generally do this with INSTALL.EXE or SETUP.EXE.
