  6. Thankyou for trying out Koan Web V.10 or Koan Plugin V1.0/V3.0 for Netscape.
  7. We hope you enjoy it/them!!

  9. First thing you will need to do is to run one of the self extracting 
  10. files, identified below.  Choose 16 bit versions for Windows 3.1 and
  11. 32 bit versions for Windows 95.  The self extracting .EXE files are 
  12. identifiable as follows:

  28. How do I install Koan Web or Koan Plugin?

  31. Setting up the SSEYO Koan Music Plug-in for Netscape Navigator

  34.    1.Run SETUP16.EXE or SETUP32.EXE. If not there already, SETUP will 
  35.      create a Netscape Plugins subdirectory under your selected 
  36.      Netscape .EXE directory, and copy the Plugin DLL there. You will 
  37.      need to choose a directory for other supplementary files, and it 
  38.      will copy the Koan Music Engine to the Windows directory.
  39.  
  40.    2.Read and agree to the terms of the Software License.
  41.  
  42.    3.Restart Netscape Navigator
  43.  
  44.    4.Connect to the SSEYO web page and check your setup works. 
  45.      If functioning correctly, you will see the Koan Icon display
  46.      in the web page as the embedded Koan file is downloaded and 
  47.      launches the Koan Plugin. Music will start to play. Should 
  48.      you experience any difficulties please see below.

  50.    5.The first time you connect to a page containing an embedded 
  51.      Koan file, try clicking with the right mouse button on the 
  52.      embedded Koan icon. You will be presented with a menu. You 
  53.      will see a menu allowing you to see information about the 
  54.      Plugin, launching Koan Web (which you will need to have 
  55.      downloaded) and various other options. You can change your 
  56.      MIDI device from the Setup menu item, but if you want to
  57.      change any of the other default options for the Plugin, 
  58.      including music volume etc. you will need to have Koan Web 
  59.      installed.

  61.      Note: If your MIDI Output device solely uses the OPL3 
  62.      chipset (e.g. SB16 and SB16 equivalents) or is one that 
  63.      doesn't support continuous volume controller changes then 
  64.      you should check the Use Koan ADSR checkbox (default). If 
  65.      you have a Wavetable soundcard or one that does support 
  66.      continuous volume controller changes (e.g. AWE32, SCC1, 
  67.      DB50XG, Gravis, NuSound) then leave this box unchecked.

  69.    6.Any Problems? 
  70.         1.Make sure your MIDI Mapper is set-up correctly (refer
  71.           to the Microsoft online help or, if you also have Koan
  72.           Web, see its online help) 
  73.         2.Check that your Setup Options show that the MIDI Output 
  74.           Device points to the MIDI Mapper or your installed 
  75.           soundcard driver.

  79. Setting up SSEYO Koan Web V1.0 as a Helper Application 
  80. ********************************************************

  82. General Setup

  84.    1.Run SETUP16.EXE or SETUP32.EXE. You will need to choose a 
  85.      directory for other supplementary files (e.g. the License), and
  86.      SETUP will copy the Koan Music Engine to the Windows directory.

  90.    3.Setup the Windows MIDI Mapper to point to your soundcard. If 
  91.      you are unfamiliar with the MIDI Mapper reference to the 
  92.      Windows online help or also the Koan Web online help.

  94.    4.Check that your Koan Setup Options show that the MIDI Output 
  95.      Device selection points to the MIDI Mapper (which should be 
  96.      the default) or your installed soundcard driver. To do this 
  97.      select View Setup from the menu: to get help on the Setup 
  98.      Options dialog press the F1 key.

  108. Setting up as a helper application

  113.      A) Download a Koan file and set up SSEYO Koan Web as a 
  114.         helper application on the fly 
  115.         1.Click on a "hotlinked" Koan file to download it.
  116.         2.You will get a message saying that it is an Unknown 
  117.           file type and asking you if you want to set up a
  118.           helper application/pick an application. 
  119.         3.Click Yes or Pick Application and select SSEYO Koan Web
  120.           (it will be where you installed it, most likely the 
  121.           KOANWEB directory) as your external viewer. 
  122. or;
  123.      B) Setup SSEYO Koan Web as a helper application in advance 
  124.  
  125.      For Microsoft Internet Explorer, you can use the
  126.        Explore | Options dialog to associate SSEYO Koan file
  127.        extensions (SKP, SKD, SKT, MID) with the SSEYO Koan Web 
  128.        program.

  130.      For Netscape Navigator:
  131.        1.Select Options|Preferences|Helpers (pre V2.0) or
  132.          Options|General Preferences |Helpers (V2.0 or later).
  133.        2.Add a new Helper application with MIME type 
  134.          application, and MIME Subtype x-koan and File
  135.          extensions skp, skd, skt, skm.
  136.        3.Under Action, select Launch Application and add SSEYO 
  137.          Koan Web which you will have installed earlier.

  139.      For other Web Browsers :
  140.        Refer to the on-line help that came with your Web Browser.

  143. 16 bit/32 bit versions
  144. =============================================================================
  145. The 32 bit versions of Koan Web and Koan Plugin now support a
  146. multi-threaded composer, which can be enabled through the Setup Dialog
  147. (View Setup off the menu). This option enables Koan to keep on
  148. composing, even when the graphical user interface is fully engaged by
  149. the user. Previously, if the user interface were stopped while waiting
  150. for user input, the music could stop being played after the Composer
  151. Reaction time (View Setup) had elapsed.
  152.  
  153. Note that when using the multithreading option, you might experience some lack
  154. of smoothness in the played music, when you have a small amount of physical
  155. memory available (e.g. less than 16 Megabytes of base physical memory, and /
  156. or many applications loaded).  If this is the case, simply either increase the
  157. Composer reaction time from the default value of 1000 milliseconds (see the
  158. SSEYO Koan Web on-line help), or disable the multithreading option.
  159. Note that the multi-threaded composer is enabled automatically for the 
  160. new SSEYO Koan Music Plug-in V3.0 for Netscape V3.0, and may not be disabled
  161. in that case.
