  7. The following information applies to Microsoft Video for Windows,
  8. version 1.1d.
  9.  
  10. Introduction
  11. ------------

  13. This Application Note includes a floppy disk containing a run-time
  14. edition of Microsoft Video version 2.0 for Windows. This maintenance
  15. release provides the following improvements and corrections to the
  16. previous version, 1.1a:
  17.  
  18.  - Improved palette support. The new release of MSVIDEO.DLL and the
  19.    Cinepak and Indeo codecs prevent Video for Windows from having to
  20.    dither 24-bit videos twice during playback.
  21.  
  22.  - Display Control Interface (DCI) support. DCI allows Video for
  23.    Windows to provide faster and smoother playback on video cards that
  24.    use the S3, Cirrus Logic, or any one of several other chip sets.
  25.    Video for Windows now also supports all DCI-enabled video cards.
  26.    Furthermore, the performance of stretched and clipped videos is
  27.    much improved for all video cards.

  32. "Previous Improvements in Version 1.1a" on page 2 of this Application

  63. Previous Improvements in Version 1.1a
  64. -------------------------------------

  66. Maintenance release 1.1a provided the following improvements and
  67. corrections to version 1.0:
  68.  
  69.  - Simultaneous playback of two .AVI files was improved.
  70.  
  71.  - Playback of loosely interleaved or noninterleaved files with
  72.    NetWare(R) Video was improved.
  73.  
  74.  - The compression algorithm was changed to fully meet the official
  75.    Interactive Multimedia Association's adaptive-differential-pulse-
  76.    code-modulation (ADPCM) format specifications.
  77.  
  78.  - Performance of video playback was improved, which corrected a
  79.    problem that caused shaky playback.
  80.  
  81.  - The general protection (GP) fault problem was corrected. This
  82.    problem occurred when you clicked embedded Video 1.1 for Windows
  83.    media objects in OLE 2.0 clients.
  84.  
  85.  - A slight memory leak that occurred with embedded objects was
  86.    corrected.

  88.    NOTE: All of the above improvements are also included in version
  89.    1.1d.

  91. To Install the Run-time Edition of Video 2.0 for Windows
  92. ---------------------------------------------------------
  93.  
  94. 1. Insert the enclosed MS Video disk in the appropriate floppy disk
  95.    drive.
  96.  
  97. 2. In Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu and type
  98.  
  99.       <drive>:\setup
  100.  
  101.    where <drive> is the floppy disk drive containing the MS Video disk.
  102.    Press ENTER.
  103.  
  104. The Setup program will install the run-time edition of Video 2.0 for
  105. Windows.
