SHAREWARE REVIEW
PROGRAM: MLSHUT - Version 1.2
AUTHOR: Bob Lancaster
REGISTRATION: "If you can afford" $5.00
WHERE FOUND: Microlink Personal Computer Users' Group
RESTRICTIONS: None
RATING: 10.0
The neatest part about my job here at Review Central, is my privilege of
reviewing HIGH quality ShareWare. Though, most of the software that I
review would rate better than average, rare is the piece that scores a
perfect ten.
The perfect ten means that the software can anticipate a user's mistakes,
has excellent documentation, runs without problems, and is reasonably
priced. I am pleased today to bring you one of the only tens: MLSHUT.
What is this ten? Its name is MLSHUT. The program is a game based on the
popular dice throwing game SHUT THE BOX. (For those non game historians
HIGH ROLLERS was based on this game)
USE: Before actually running the program you can envision the quality that
lies ahead. For the documentation is superbly written. It is truly the
best example of documentation for a game that I have seen.
Immersing yourself in the documentation, you begin to notice that this
game offers everything that a game should offer. Mouse control, score
keeping, sound toggle, multi-player, vs. computer, and the ever
important BOSS key are just some of the numerous features available.
Once you start the program you'll notice that the screen is FAST.
We're not talking smoking, but vaporizing! Colors abound, as well as,
offers for help.
Everything can be done by mouse. You can even enter your name by
mouse! This is a great feature, for you'll never have to use the
keyboard for MLSHUT. The only problem with the mouse input concerns
itself with correcting mistakes made in names. There is no way to do
it.
Once the game starts you had better start a timer. A loud timer. You
will become lost in its challenge, especially if you are playing the
PC. The game is SO simple, yet so hard. Every move you make is
critical, but then so easy.
Your challenge is to roll a pair of dice (Nice animation I might add),
and shut certain parts of the box labeled 1 through 9. Let's say that I
roll a 12. I can either remove the 9 and the 3, the 6 the 5 and the 1,
the 2 the 5 the 4 and the 1 etc. Luck plays a pivotal roll.
You are scored by the amount of the boxes that you shut. So, if you
had a bad round and only shut the nine, your score would be nine.
(There are a possible 50 points) The computer keeps a gas tank type
indicator for your score. So far, 160 seems to be my highest, though
it is not for lack of trying.
The sound is appropriate and not gaudy, that is if sound can be gaudy,
while the graphics are stunning; fast and neatly assembled the
graphics are impressive for their low level.
The game is so user interactive you can even command it from the
command line, as well as, a menu bar on the bottom of the screen. It
is truly a well planned and programmed game.
RATING FOR MLSHUT12:

10.0
The only suggestion that I can make is the ability to correct a users name
while inputting it with a mouse. The graphics are sharp, the options
plenty, and the play addictive.
