  4.      There   are   several  design
  5. variations of the bearings between
  6. the  pedals,   called  the  BOTTOM
  7. BRACKET,  or  crank  bearings. The
  8. adjustment  is performed  the same
  9. way, however.
  10.      Loosen the outer  nut or ring
  11. (which may be left threaded), turn
  12. the inner nut or  "cup" to get the
  13. proper   adjustment,    and   then
  14. re-tighten  the  locknut  or ring.
  15. You may  need to try  this several
  16. times to  get it right.  Check the
  17. adjustment  with  the  chain  off.
  18. There   should   be   no   bearing
  19. looseness   and  yet   the  cranks
  20. should spin freely.
