BRAKE NOISES

text/2 41 1
Most vehicles today have front
wheel disc brakes. The pads used on
these brakes have a metal projection
which acts as a wear sensor. As the
pads wear from usage, the metal gets
closer to the rotating disc. When
pads get to a predetermined thick-
ness, the metal projection touches
the disc and begins to squeal. Time
for a brake repair shop. It's not a
good idea to let this noise continue

too long as it could wear a ridge in
the disc and increase your costs for
the repair job.
Rear brakes generally use brake
shoes. If you hear metal noises from
the rear wheels, it's time to get to a
brake shop also. There are no sensors
in the rear so noises are bad news.
If the car pulls when you apply the
brakes, it could be problems with the
wheel cylinders and should be checked.
