While we're on the subject of filters, there are two more which are
important but I also feel these are best left to the professionals. They
are the gasoline filter and the oil filter. A dirty gasoline filter will
rob you of gas mileage and performance. There should be instructions in your
owner's manual as to the recommended mileage for replacement. Some of these
are easily worked on and others are hidden by all sorts of equipment.
The oil filter also has a recommended mileage replacement rate. Check out
your owner's manual for that info also. Each manufacturer has his idea of
the proper mileage for filter changes. When you have these items replaced,
find out what sort of warranty the garage will give you. Obviously, you
don't want to worry about any leaks. Here again, check under your car when
you get ready to drive off. An oil leak will be easily spotted.
Other than looking under the hood for leaks at the gas filter, pay close
attention for any gasoline fumes you may notice over the next few days.
